LSU sophomore left-hander Griffin Herring has emerged as the Tigers most important pitcher. LSU has won five SEC games and he’s pitched in four of them, including Sunday’s six to two victory over Missouri. Herring entered the fifth inning and pitched five shutout innings and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts. Coach Jay Johnson appreciates Herring’s ability to take the ball in any given situation…

LSU begins a nine-game homestand tonight by hosting Nicholls. The Colonels are 24-14 this season and they defeated LSU last year.

Also tonight…ULM hosts Little Rock. The Warhawks defeated the Trojans 11 to 1 on March 5th. Northwestern State hosts Grambling State at 6 PM. The Demons won the first matchup of the season.

Former LSU wide receiver Khai Prean announces he’s transferring to Tulane. Prean is a from St. James High School and had 61 catches his senior season and grabbed 14 touchdown passes. He did not record any stats his freshman season.

In basketball…former Ragin Cajuns star player, Kobe Julien is transferring to Arkansas State. Julien averaged 17 points and five rebounds a game last season.

Former LSU women’s basketball player Janae Kent is transferring to Texas A-and-M. She was a top 100 recruit coming out of high school, but played just 259 minutes during her freshman season as a Lady Tiger.

Georgia reportedly tried to hire LSU gymnastics coach Jay Clark and his staff, but Clark and his assistant are staying according to the Advocate. Clark just led LSU to its first national championship in gymnastics. He’s a Georgia native and was the head coach at Georgia for four seasons, before resigning and joining DD Breaux’s staff at LSU.

The LSU baseball team begins a nine-game homestand tonight by hosting the Nicholls Colonels. The Tigers are coming off their first SEC series victory of the season over Missouri.

Freshman outfielder Ashton Larson led the Tigers at the plate this past weekend. He was 5-for-10 with two doubles, one homer, two RBI and four runs scored. Larson is hitting 3-95 in SEC games. Coach Jay Johnson on why Larson has become one of LSU’s top hitters…

It will be a Top 20 battle tonight in Lafayette as the 19th ranked Cajuns softball team hosts seventh ranked LSU. These two teams met last Tuesday and the Tigers won four to two. With the postseason right around the corner, Cajuns coach Gerry Glasco says there is a lot at stake…

LSU football coach Brian Kelly will be in Detroit for the first round of Thursday night’s NFL draft. Three Tigers are expected to be selected in the first round, Jayden Daniels, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Junior. The trio of former Tigers will also be in Detroit to hear their name called.

The LSU baseball team snapped its five game SEC series losing streak by taking two of three from Missouri. The Tigers won the rubber game yesterday six to two. Griffin Herring continued his dominance out of the bullpen, five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight.

Louisiana Tech took two of three from 25th ranked Dallas Baptist over the weekend. The two teams split a doubleheader yesterday with the Bulldogs winning the second game six to one after losing game one of the doubleheader eight to three. Will Safford homered and Turner Swistak struck out nine and allowed zero runs over six innings.

The Ragin Cajuns dropped to 17th in the latest D-1 Baseball poll after dropping their first Sun Belt series. Coastal Carolina took two of three from U-L Lafayette and moved up to 13 in the D-1 Baseball poll.

ULM dropped two of three to Southern Miss. Nicholls swept Houston Christian, winning the series finale six to five in 12 innings. The Colonels travel to LSU tomorrow night

The LSU baseball won its first SEC Series of the season as they took yesterday’s rubber game, beating Missouri six to two. Griffen Herring allowed just one hit over five innings of relief for the win.

14th ranked Ragin Cajuns pitching gave up 27 runs and lost its first Sun Belt Series to 19th ranked Coastal Carolina. Louisiana Tech took two of three from 25th ranked Dallas Baptist. The Bulldogs defeated won the second game of yesterday’s doubleheader six to one. Turner Swistak struck out nine over six innings for his fifth win.

LSU is national champions in gymnastics for the first time in program history as the Tigers rallied at the end on Saturday afternoon to win the national title.

LSU trailed Utah heading into the final rotation and the Tigers were on a beam. Sierra Ballard, Konnor McClain, Kiya Johnson, Haleigh Bryant and Aleah Finnegan all scored a 9.95 or higher. Finnegan’s fantastic performance sealed the victory. Jay Clark knew Aleah would hit on her final routine…

The Pelicans are moving on to the Western Conference playoffs after a 105 to 98 win over the Sacramento Kings last night. Brandon Ingram led the way with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists. New Orleans will begin a best of seven series with the Thunder on Sunday night in Oklahoma City.

This afternoon at 3 PM, the LSU gymnastics squad will go after its first national championship in program history. They will compete against Utah, Florida and Cal. Utah is looking for its 10th national championship in women’s gymnastics, which would tie a record. Florida is seeking its fourth and Cal is fresh off a Pac-12 title and they’ve flipped flopped with LSU for most of the season as the second ranked team in the country. The LSU Tigers began the second half of SEC play with a 12-1 win over Missouri in seven innings. Gage Jump struck out a career high 14. Jared Jones hit his 16th home run, Hayden Travinski hit his 11th, Brady Neal blasted his sixth home run and Steven Milam hit his first. Game two is at 4 PM today.

14th ranked U-L Lafayette’s 14 game winning streak in the Sun Belt ended with a nine to one loss to Coastal Carolina. The two teams will play a doubleheader at noon today.

Southern Miss defeated ULM 14 to 3.

Ethan Bates hit a two run homer in the seventh inning to snap a three-three tie and Louisiana Tech went on to beat 25th ranked Dallas Baptist five to three. Bates also picked up his eleventh save of the season.

UNO edged McNeese six to five, Nicholls clobbered Houston Christian 14 to 2, U-I-W swept a doubleheader from Northwestern State and Grambling defeated Alcorn State 28 to 3.

LSU has advanced to the final four of the NCAA Gymnastics championships after posting the highest score among the eight teams that reached the semifinals. Two-time defending national champion Oklahoma failed to advance to the finals after suffering falls on vault and beam last night. The national championship meet is at 3 PM Saturday.

In college football…LSU safety Ryan Yaites and cornerback Jeremiah Hughes have entered the transfer portal. Yaites had 16 tackles as a true freshman last season, while Hughes played mostly special teams.

The NCAA’s Playing Rules oversight committee has voted to allow helmet communications so plays can be relayed to the players that way and the two-minute warning is coming to college football at the end of each half.

The Arena Football League team the Voodoo was scheduled to play their first game next Saturday in Lake Charles, but instead the team will have its home games in Lafayette at the Blackham Coliseum. Head coach James Shiver put out a statement that because of ongoing issues for months, his bosses decided it was best to move the team to Lafayette.

The Pelicans are getting ready for tomorrow night’s play-in elimination game against the Sacramento Kings. The winner advances to the Western Conference playoffs to play top-seeded Oklahoma City in a best of seven series. The loser has its season come to an end. Coach Willie Green says Brandon Ingram looked good at practice today. Friday will mark his third game back after missing several weeks with a knee injury.

Former LSU guard Haily Van Lith has committed to T-C-U. It will be Van Lith’s third school after playing for three seasons with Louisville. She played one season for the Lady Tigers, starting at point guard, but her more natural position is shooting guard.

Angel Reese was known as the Bayou Barbie during her two seasons at LSU. Now that she’s a member of the Chicago Sky, Reese says she will now be known as the Chi Barbie, but you can still call her the Bayou Barbie.

LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon has named former Tiger Jalen Courtney-Williams as an assistant. He spent the last three years on Creighton’s staff. Courtney-Williams played for LSU from 2010 to 2013.

The second half of the SEC schedule begins this weekend and the LSU Tigers will start a series tomorrow night against Missouri. Coach Jay Johnson’s team is 3-and-12 in league play. He says his team has not delivered in the clutch moments…

After beating Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday and Wednesday night, 14th ranked U-L Lafayette gets ready for a huge series against 19th ranked Coastal Carolina. Coastal is 19-and-4 at home this season and they are the preseason pick to win the Sun Belt.

The 14th ranked Cajuns baseball team continued their winning ways last night as U-L Lafayette defeated Southeastern Louisiana eight to one. The Cajuns won for the 24th time in 26 games and it was their second straight win over the Lions. Conor Higgs who had three doubles on Tuesday, hit two home runs last night. U-L is at Coastal Carolina this weekend.

The LSU baseball team left this morning for Missouri, where they’ll face the Missouri Tigers in a three-game series starting tomorrow night in Columbia. LSU is 3-and-12 in SEC Play and have lost their first five conference series for the first time since 1977. Coach Jay Johnson says the coaching staff is trying to get the best out of this team…

Hailey Van Lith will continue her college career at TCU as the guard has announced her commitment to the Horned Frogs. Van Lith was the Lady Tigers starting point guard last season. She was seeking a school where she can be a shooting guard again.

No Zion Williamson tomorrow night for the Pelicans and he’ll miss at least the next two weeks after injuring his hamstring in Tuesday night’s loss against the Lakers. New Orleans needs to beat Sacramento tomorrow night or its season is over. The Pels are 5-0 against the Kings, but New Orleans has also struggled at home this season. Tip off is at 8:30 PM.

For the second straight night, the 14th ranked U-L Lafayette baseball team defeated Southeastern Louisiana. Last night the final score in Hammond was eight to one. Conor Higgs hit two solo home runs and the Cajuns are at Coastal Carolina this weekend.

In transfer portal news…LSU tight end Connor Gilbreath has entered the transfer portal. Also speedy freshman wide receiver Khai Prean is also leaving LSU.

The Lady Tigers are looking for a point guard in the transfer portal after losing Hailey Van Lith and Angelica Velez to the transfer portal. Van Lith and Velez’s departure leaves LSU with just two point guards on its roster.
