Saints offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk will miss the rest of the season. He was placed on the physically unable to perform list and since he’s a vested veteran and the move was made before the final roster cut-down date, it means Ramczyk can not play. There’s a chance Ramczyk’s career is over because of a knee injury that cost him the final four games of last season.

The 2024 SEC Football Media days are over. Arkansas Coach Sam Pittman was one of the last coaches to appear and talked about how the recent games against LSU have been decided by three points.

LSU beat Arkansas 34-31 last year and this year the two teams will meet in Fayetteville on October 19th.

Eight LSU pitchers were selected in this week’s Major League Baseball Draft. That’s an SEC record for the number of pitchers from team selected in a draft. Mississippi state also had eight pitchers chosen this year.

The Pelicans fell to 0-4 in the Summer League with an an 88 to 77 loss to the Grizzlies. Jordan Ford from St. Mary’s had 16 points.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens will play for the Evangel Eagles in Shreveport this fall. Atlin Owens Miller is six-foot-five, and he plays both football and basketball. Miller has transferred into Evangel after playing at Southridge High in Miami. He’s expected to be a receiver for Coach Denny Duron.

The LSU football program has received a commitment from the nation’s number one cornerback. His name is DJ Pickett from Tampa, Florida. He’s six-foot-four, 180 pounds and Pickett says he chose the Tigers over Oregon and Miami, because of LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond, who has history of developing defensive backs who have been selected in the NFL draft. On-three-dot-com ranks LSU’s 2025 class as the third best in the country behind Alabama and Ohio State.

LSU Baseball Coach Jay Johnson is also hot on the recruiting trail. Left-handed pitcher Cooper Williams decommitted from Texas A-and-M and committed to LSU. Perfect Game ranks Williams as the 12th best left-hander in the country. He’s six-foot-four, 175 pounds from Alvin, Texas. Pickett features a 93-mile per hour fastball and Perfect Game says he also has a big slider and changeup.

Louisiana Tech catcher Jorge Corona has signed a free agent deal with the Chicago White Six. The Miami native hit .316 with 16 homers and 51 RBIs last season.

U-L Lafayette Athletics Director Dr. Bryan Maggard has signed a contract extension through June 2029. Maggard, who joined the Ragin’ Cajuns in 2017, says his challenge for the future is navigating NIL deals.

Pickett says he wanted to be coached by LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond. He joins a star studded recruiting class that also features the nation’s number one quarterback Bryce Underwood and running back Harlem Berry.

A status conference hearing scheduled for today in suspended LSU running back Trey Holly’s criminal case has been pushed back until September. Suspended LSU running back Trey Holly was set to have a court hearing tomorrow, but it has been pushed back until September 18th because more evidence is expected to be presented and the attorneys working the case want more time. Holly is facing a charge of illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality from a shooting that injured two people in Union Parish in February. Holly has said he’s innocent.

Gambling charges against former LSU receiver Kayshon Boutte have been dropped. He was arrested in January for placing bets on online when he was under the age of 21. The East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney’s office says Boutte has completed a gambling awareness program and executed a self-ban. Legal Analyst Tim Meche says it’s a classic case of prosecutorial discretion because no one was harmed…

SWAC Media day was today. Alabama State has been picked to win the East, Alcorn State is the preseason favorite in the West. Grambling is picked to finish third in the West, Southern in fourth place. Two LSU pitchers were selected by the New York Yankees in the Major League Baseball draft. Right-hander Thatcher Hurd went in the third round to the Bronx Bombers and in the sixth round, New York took left-hander Griffen Herring, raising the possibility Herring will not return to LSU.

The Rockies selected LSU relief pitcher Fidel Ulloa in the seventh round. Left-hander Nate Ackenhausen went in the 10th round to the Royals.

Power hitting first baseman Jared Jones has yet to be drafted, raising the chances he returns to LSU.

Ragin Cajuns All-American pitcher L-P Langevin was taken in the fourth round by the Royals.

The Chicago White Sox selected Louisiana Tech outfielder Cole McConnell in the tenth round after hitting .378 for the Bulldogs last season. The Chicago Cubs drafted Nicholls first baseman Edgar Alvarez.

Tonight is the Major League Baseball All-Star game. Former LSU star Paul Skenes will start for the National League and throw one inning. First pitch is at 7 PM.

Two pitchers from LSU were drafted by the New York Yankees today. Thatcher Hurd went in the third round to the Bronx Bombers and the Yankees selected Griffin Herring in the sixth round. Hurd was not expected to return to LSU next season, but there’s a chance Herring will come back. It all depends on the contract offer he gets from the Yankees.

Also in the fourth round, Haughton native and former Arkansas second baseman Peyton Stovall was selected by the Reds.

Former LSU star Paul Skenes will be the starter for the National League in tomorrow night’s All-Star game. Skenes is only expected to pitch one inning in the Mid-Summer Classic.

Right before the start of the Major League Baseball draft, Catholic High right-hander William Schmidt announced he’s heading to LSU, passing on a chance to pitch professionally. Schmidt could have been a first-round pick, but the avid LSU fan says he wants to win championships for the Purple and Gold.
