A civil rights group called the Village 337 is demanding the release of an eleven year girl who was charged with murder in the November shooting death of 36-year-old Kameron Bedsole of New Iberia. The child still faces an obstruction of justice charge and could be sentenced to seven years in a juvenile detention facility. A new study indicates prenatal care in Louisiana is at risk because many obstetricians are refusing to see patients in their first trimester, when miscarriages are highest, due to the state’s abortion ban for fear of being prosecuted. Lift Louisiana Executive Director Michelle Erenberg says the report was conducted last summer.

Erenberg says based on their research, they are seeing a rise in unnecessary C-sections, prenatal care appointments are getting pushed back and physicians are also delaying treatment of miscarriages. We reached out to the state health department for comment, but no response as of yet.

Four people have been arrested in connection with a drive by shooting that killed 65-year-old Annette Trouvell of Lake Charles earlier this month. 18-year-old Jordan L Jones is facing 2^nd degree murder charges, 25-year-old Tyler D Lewis, principal to 2^nd degree murder. Two 17-year-olds were also arrested. One faces accessory after the fact to 2^nd degree murder and the the other, unauthorized use of a vehicle after taking the family vehicle from which the shootings occurred. 36-year-old Chelsea R Hyatt was also charged with obstruction of justice because authorities says she knew her daughter was in the car and did not report it.

A bill to get rid of vehicle inspection stickers in Louisiana will be heard in House Transportation today. Author of the bill, Stonewall Representative Larry Bagley  says they are simply a money grab.

Bagley says no other states in the south require break tags or inspection stickers, except for Texas which is phasing there’s out. Bagley. Commercial and student transportation vehicles would still be required to have inspection stickers.

David Cauthron, a former Addis police officer, pled guilty Monday to two counts of manslaughter related to a deadly car crash on New Year’s Eve in 2022. Cauthron slammed his unit into a vehicle with killing two teens and severely injuring a U-L Lafayette during a high-speed chase. West Baton Rouge District Attorney Tony Clayton says Cauthron’s actions and comments before the accident were critical in the case.

A proposal to eliminate vehicle inspection stickers in Louisiana will be heard in House Transportation today. This will be Stonewall Representative Larry Bagley’s third attempt to eliminate break tags or vehicle inspection stickers in Louisiana. As for opposition, he says he’s gotten pushback from the owners of vehicle inspection sites and from state police.
