An eleven-year-old will attend LSU this fall after he graduated middle and high school in two years. Joe Petraro is from East Rockaway in New York and has an IQ of 168 despite living with Tourette syndrome. Petraro will take online classes and his dream is to be a sports broadcaster.

The Joe Burrow Foundation, led by former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, has partnered with the Three O’clock Project to donate 9,999 meals to schools in Baton Rouge. Through this initiative, the Burrow Foundation continues its commitment to supporting education and addressing hunger in areas where children are most vulnerable.

That’s Three O’ Clock Project Executive Director Emily Chatelain who says Burrow is partnering with Kodiak food company to donate the meals.

On August 1st, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) introduced a new option for individuals purchasing hunting and fishing licenses with ACT 348. The ability to register as organ donors. LDWF Undersecretary Brian McClinton says this initiative is part of a broader effort to increase organ donor registrations.

Louisiana has seen a significant need for organ donors, with over 2,000 residents currently waiting for transplants.

Louisiana’s restaurant industry is improving post-pandemic in areas around the state. Mel Bridges has the details.

Officials are investigating after a body was reportedly found in a pond just south of I-12 Monday morning. The body was found in a pond off South Frost Road, also known as Highway 63. The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene after someone reported a male body floating in a pond. There was no immediate information on how long the body had been there or the body’s identity. This is a developing story.

 

As investigations into the assassination attempt on former President Trump’s life continue, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise says there are even more concerning details in the case that the Secret Service wasn’t forthcoming about.

Students at Louisiana High Schools are fighting the new law banning student cell phones in school. Students at Walker High School have begun a petition drive to change the newly enacted law. Over ten thousand students at a Prairieville high school have already signed a similar petition.

As investigations into the assassination attempt on former President Trump’s life continue, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise says there’s been plenty of finger-pointing going on from different agencies and he was even alerted from his own sources about local law enforcement’s concerns.

State Police are investigating an officer-related shooting at the request of the Delhi Police Department.  The incident happened just before 11 o-clock Sunday night in the 7200 Block of Highway 17 in Delhi. The subject was pronounced dead on the scene and no officers were harmed. Few details have been released but LSP asks anyone with information to share it with them by visiting LSP.org.

A new pill for mothers suffering from postpartum depression is showing success. According to Chief Medical Officer for United Health Care Dr. Kevin Stephens, one in five women experience pregnancy related mental health conditions, and he says there wasn’t much treatment success before Zurzuvae (zur-ZOO-vay), which is now available in pill form.
