Components of Governor Landry’s massive tax reform plan continue to receive approval from the House Ways and Means Committee. The tax reform special session continues today at the State Capitol. Governor Landry’s plan is seeking to reduce taxes and offset the loss of revenue by eliminating several different tax breaks. On Sunday, the House Ways and Means Committee approved legislation to lower the corporate income tax, but the film tax credit program would be eliminated.

The New York Post reports Governor Jeff Landry is a potential candidate to be attorney general in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. Landry, who became Louisiana’s governor less than a year ago, previously served as the state’s attorney general and has longstanding ties to Trump. An Arizona jockey has been arrested in Opelousas. Louisiana State Troopers with the Gaming Enforcement Division found 5 horse shocking devices when they took Jockey, Martain Osuna into custody at Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino. Authorities say Osuna falsified information on a racing document prompting the arrest warrant and when he arrived at Evangeline Downs to participate in a race he was detained. He was taken to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked on falsifying information on a racing document, injuring public records, and five counts of laws against unnatural stimulation of horses.
