In the 5th Congressional District race, Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo picked up two more endorsements. The only Democrat in the race announced he’s got support from Amite State Representative John Bel Edwards, who has announced he’ll seek the office of the Governor in 2015 — and Marksville Representative Robert Johnson. A new Glascock poll shows the incumbent Vance McAllister wouldn’t even make the runoff if the election were held today.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested 76 year-old Armando Alvarez was booked, following the discovery by the Jefferson Parish Animal Control Office of the roosters being improperly caged.

School officials are working to repair the grass after fans stormed the field in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Assistant Sports Turf Manager Hunter Sexton says the damage wasn’t nearly as bad as they thought it would be but the biggest issue was people using keys and pocket knives to cut out sections of the field as a souvenir…:

A man from Marrero is under arrest accused of cockfighting and abusing 44 chickens according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office. They say 76-year-old Armando Alvarez was housing over forty caged birds standing in waste including 40 roosters with scars. Alvarez was booked with one count of cockfighting, 44 counts of cruelty to animals and 40 aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to the American Automobile Association, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Louisiana is the lowest it’s been in four years. The price here has fallen to $2.88 per gallon. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says this is a surprising turn of events considering some international market tensions…:

State Police say a 45-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Madison Parish yesterday afternoon. They say Karen Soares of Delhi veered off Highway 557 and rolled several times before coming to rest in a field. The woman was not wearing her seat-belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Phil Robertson appears in TV commercials this week saying his nephew believes in the Bible and in guns and would be the best man for the job.
