There have been multiple fatal incidents in the state in the past several hours. A house fire in New Orleans has claimed the lives of two adults and three children and a head-on collision in Terrebonne Parish has claimed the lives of three others. No charges will be filed in a fatal shooting of a hunter in Rapides Parish. Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Tommy Carnline says 37-year-old Michael Haynes of Alexandria was the victim of a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. He says detectives responded as well as the crime scene unit…

He says this is another reminder for hunters to wear clothing that clearly makes them visible to other hunters.

The New Orleans Fire Department is investigating an early morning fire that has left 5 people dead in the Broadmoor area. The victims have been identified as 77-year-old Martha Anderson; Christina Squier; and her three children 12-year-old Jade Anderson, 11-year-old Jason Anderson, and 6-year-old Jala Anderson. The father of the children made it out of the home and called authorities, but was unsuccessful in returning to the home to save his family.

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva issued a statement Monday apologizing for the profane chant some fans directed to Alabama coach Nick Saban during Saturday’s game against LSU. In the statement, Alleva says, “We are deeply sorry that such crude behavior occurred in Tiger Stadium, because that is the antithesis of what we represent at LSU.”

The Saints remain tops in the NFC South after the Philadelphia Eagles crushed the Atlanta Falcons 45-21 last night. Panther quarterback Cam Newton was sacked 9 times last night, the most allowed in team history. Former Saint Darren Sproles added a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown to help the Eagles improve to 7-2.

Lebron James and Kyrie Irving combined for 64 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Pelicans last night 118-111. The loss ends the Pels two game winning streak as the team falls to 3-3 on the season. Ryan Anderson led the Pelicans with 32 points followed by Anthony Davis’ 27. The Pels host the 1-5 Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow night.

A big matchup between two ranked FCS teams happens in Hammond Saturday afternoon. Tenth ranked Southeastern Louisiana hosts eleventh ranked McNeese State in a big Southland Conference game. The Lions are coming off a 76-7 win over Houston Baptist, while the Cowboys are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 31-16 loss to Stephen F. Austin.

Looks like cold weather ahead for Louisiana. A strong cold front is moving through the state today and tomorrow bringing a big blast of cold air from Canada into the Bayou State.

The Louisiana Poison Control Center is sending out a warning to parents about the dangers of laundry detergent pods which have harmed hundreds of children nationally who mistake them for toys or candy. Director Mark Ryan says kids who ingest the concentrated detergent in these pods can quickly have central nervous system depression and become lethargic:

Maness finished third in the primary last week.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department has made an arrest of man who is charged with the beating of an elderly man. Fifty-one year-old Simon Fontenot, who is the step-son of the senior adult, is charged with one count of second-degree battery. The eighty-two year-old victim was treated for multiple injuries, with several facial fractures.

They say 51-year-old Simon Fontenot is accused of beating the 82-year-old man with a chair. He is charged with aggravated second degree battery.
