State Police are investigating a two car crash on Highway 17 in Franklin Parish that has claimed the life of a Delhi man, after a 16 year-old driver in a truck crossed over the center line. Forty-seven year-old Drue Randolph died at the scene. The teenaged driver suffered minor injuries.

Louisiana actress Donna Douglas, famoulsy known as Elly Mae Clampett on the “Beverely Hillbillies” TV show has passed away at the age of 81. Douglas was born in East Baton Rouge Parish and lived in Zachary. During a recent appearance on the “Jim Engster” show, Douglas said she never considered not living in Louisiana, despite becoming a movie and TV star…

Several new laws have gone into effect with the new year. Jefferson Parish Assistant District Attorney Norma Broussard says the state has revised its D-W-I laws and one of the new provisions calls for jail time for first time offenders, who are under the age of 21….

Another new law allows a 16-year-old to register to vote, but they still can exercise their right to vote until they turn 18.

The mild weather across south Louisiana in December should help with this year’s crawfish season. LSU Ag Center aquaculture specialist, Doctor Greg Lutz, says when it’s warm, mud bugs will tend to move around and feed on things to get bigger, and this is welcome news, because we didn’t have a lot of rain during the fall..

Several media outlets are reporting 81-year-old Donna Douglas passed away on New Years Day. The native of Louisiana who lived in Zachary and was born in Pride in 1933 is best known for her role as Elly May Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies. Douglas was also a Miss Baton Rouge and was named Miss New Orleans in 1957.

Just over 20 new state laws went into effect with the start of the new year. That includes changes to Louisiana’s D-W-I laws. Jefferson Parish assistant district attorney Norma Broussard, says judges can now take certain measures to provide substance abuse help for those convicted of their first or second D-W-I…:

Louisiana’s Economic Development Secretary Stephen Moret anticipates significant growth in 2015 as a result of the new projects they announced last year. He says a lot of that will take place in the high tech and the software development industry. Louisiana announced dozens of company expansions or re-locations last year which Moret says will result in 25,000 new jobs.

Louisiana has been experiencing some mild temperatures so far this winter which is good news for the crawfish season. LSU Ag Center Aquaculture specialist Dr. Greg Lutz says warmer weather allows the mudbugs to grow faster during the winter months…:

Lutz says this also means the harvest will begin sooner than it normally would which is welcome by growers because we didn’t have a lot of rain during the fall.

Happy Ohio State fans are headed home from The Big Easy today after The Buckeyes upset Alabama 42-35 and now head into the college football championship game against Oregon January 12th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Gas prices dropped yet another 2 cents overnight as the fast decline continues into the new year. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular now stands at $2.07 which is over 11 cents less than this time last week and down $1.08 from the start of last year.

Three people were killed on New Year’s eve night in a two-vehicle crash in Livingston Parish. State Police trooper Jared Sandifer says 24-year-old Trinity Kiger of Satsuma hit another vehicle near Walker, killing himself and two others inside the other vehicle….

Sad Alabama fans are leaving Louisiana today. They watched the Crimson Tide lose last night in the Sugar Bowl as Ohio State pulled off the upset with a 42-35 victory in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. The win for the Buckeyes puts them in the national championship game against Oregon on January 12th. That game will be played in Dallas.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested two men from Slidell for allegedly stealing 19 cases of commercial-grade fireworks. Authorities say the fireworks were intended to be used New Year’s eve night for a show in Bossier City. Detectives believe 22-year-old Marcus Stewart and 30-year-old Donald Armlin Junior stole the fireworks between December 23rd and 29th.

State Police Troooper Jared Sandifer says the 11-year-old victim was in the rear middle seat, wearing a seatbelt, but the vehicle was equipped with a lap belt only…
