Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is asking FEMA to give homeowners impacted by Red River floodwaters in northwest and central Louisiana more time to file a claim. The National Flood Insurance Program requires homeowners to file within 60 days of a flood but Donelon says many will need longer than that to collect the forms they need.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office reports a 26-year-old A.A.U. basketball coach is under arrest for allegedly sending explicit pictures and text messages to a female juvenile. The victim’s family contacted deputies and after an investigation they booked Adrian Steib Jr. on charges of computer aided solicitation of a minor and indecent behavior with a juvenile.

There’s a bill on Governor Bobby Jindal’s desk which would put into law a provision allowing cops equipment on patrol cars to scan someone’s license plate as a way to catch uninsured motorists.

Amite Police say a Roseland man is under arrest accused of killing his neighbor Wednesday. They say 39-year-old Jermaine Williams and 27-year-old Joshua Lee were having an argument when Williams pulled a gun and shot Lee five times. Williams also allegedly shot at Lee’s girlfriend. Williams is charged with second degree murder and attempted second degree murder. Authorities believe an ongoing feud between the men led to the incident.

Shreveport Police say a 13-year-old boy is recovering in a local hospital after being shot in the head last night.
