State Police say a crash in Terrebonne Parish has claimed the life of a Chauvin woman. They say a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Jason Dehart of Bourg failed to negotiate a turn, crossed the center line, and struck the vehicle driven by Carolyn Pellegrin head-on. Pellegrin was pronounced dead at the scene. Dehart and a 4-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital for their injuries. Authorities say impariment is suspected for Dehart. Dehart was arrested on several charges including vehicular homicide.

A teacher from Christian Life Academy has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a student two years ago. East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks says when they brought 27-year-old Amber Anderson in for questioning, she admitted to the relationship. Hicks says it’s always a shame when they have to work crimes that involve juveniles…

Monroe Police has arrested one of two suspects wanted in a shooting that left two men hospitalized. Authorities say after a fight with Liansel Mayes, Devantae James and Roderick Cooper returned to the scene and fire several shots, striking Mayes in the leg and another man in the upper torso. James surrendered to authorities and is charged with two counts of attempted second degree murder. Police are still on the lookout for Cooper.

Founding Dean of LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health, Doctor Elizabeth Fontham is a Crowley native and she’s pleased to see the Lafayette city-parish council will consider an ordinance on May fifth to ban smoking in bars and clubs there…

It’s week two of the legislative session and so far a House or Senate committee has yet to pass a bill that addresses the state’s huge budget deficit. Jeremy Alford, publisher of la-politics-dot-com, says what makes the $1.6 billion dollar shortfall challenging is Governor Bobby Jindal’s revenue neutrality policy. Alford says, with eight weeks left in the legislative session, no one really knows what to expect.

An LSU Public Policy Polling survey done for the state’s film industry shows 48% of those polled said they had a positive opinion of the state’s film tax credit program. The poll shows 80% of Louisianians agree it’s good for the economy to have movies made here. Legislators have to yet to debate the various bills dealing with the state’s film tax credit program in this session.

The Lafayette Council Chairman is working with local Grammy award winning zydeco musician Chubby Carrier are teaming up in support of an ordinance to ban smoking in bars and clubs. Council chair Kenneth Boudreaux says the goal is to protect musicians and servers from second hand smoke. The New Orleans ban goes into effect tonight at midnight.

A Walker man has been arrested for the Sunday night attack and rape of a woman in a Livingston Parish laundromat. Forty-year-old Lionel Myles of Walker was arrested and charged with aggravated rape, aggravated assault, battery, and armed robbery. Captain John Sharp says crimes like this are rare in Walker, so when it occurs, they take it very seriously…

A teacher from Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge has been arrested and charged with having an alleged sexual relationship with a 15 year-old boy in 2013. East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Detectives arrested 27 year-old Amber Anderson and charged her with Felony Carnal Knowledge Of A Juvenile. The victim told detectives the two of them also exchanged sexually explicit text messages.

A bicyclist in Ouachita Parish is dead following a crash on Highway 165 just south of Monroe about 1:30 am this morning. State Police say that 36 year-old Mashaylin Green tried to cross the road and was hit by a car driven by 22 year-old Tommy Coleman. Coleman was cited for speeding, and no license, or plate.

Police in Walker say a man accused of raping a woman at knifepoint late Sunday night at a Livingston Parish laundromat has been arrested. The victim reported the suspect approached her looking for change when he produced a knife. Captain John Sharp said officers had good quality surveillance video to review…

Blue Bell Ice Cream announces every single one of their products is being recalled. Stores are pulling everything from the shelves today because of the threat of listeria bacteria. State Epidemiologist Dr. Raoult Ratard says if you have any Blue Bell ice cream in your fridge, throw it away and do not eat it. He says the people most at risk of getting an infection caused by listeria are those with low immune systems…:

The Blue Bell recall includes all of its ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and other frozen treats.

The reward for information leading to the arrest of the people responsible for cutting the head off a goat with a machete and filming it is now $14,000. Hammond says they got the video from a New Orleans University police officer, but they aren’t sure where the incident actually took place.

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Downsville woman and her nephew after a fight at a family gathering. Authorities say 24-year-old Johnny Franks, Jr. accused his uncle of disrespecting him by asking him to leave a hamburger for another guest and threw several objects at him. When officers arrived, 68-year-old Gloria Cashion fought with and drove her car toward them. Franks is charged with aggravated battery. Cashion is charged with attempted assault on the deputies and resisting arrest.

Mourners are saying goodbye to R&B singer Percy Sledge at a church in Baker today. Sledge passed at his Baton Rouge home last week. The Women a Man Loves a Woman Singer’s son, Howell Sledge, is one of the many who are paying tribute today. The funeral service is streaming online at percysledge.org.
