If you’re planning to go west on I-10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette over the next 60 days DOTD wants you to be ready for some delays. Starting today, asphalt will be laid on I-10 west between LA-415 in Port Allen to the Iberville Parish Line. Officials would urge motorists headed through that corridor to take US-190 as an alternate route. There will be no lane closures on LSU and Southern University football game weekends or on major holidays.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries opened the fall shrimp season this week. Fisherman are reporting good catches so far off the Louisiana coast. The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says two women are in jail charged with exploitation of the infirmed for allegedly stealing $400,000 from the bank account of a 96 year old. 39-year-old Jennifer Smith of Shreveport and 39-year-old Alye Haralson of Stonewall are accused of using the elderly victim’s money for trips to Mexico, Las Vegas and several cruises.

Bossier City Police have arrested a woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend. They say 29-year-old LaQuandria Lyons allegedly stabbed 29-year-old Taequarn Johnson in the chest at their residence. A Covington Fire Department official says three students from Covington High School were taken to the hospital this afternoon suffering from suspected drug overdoses. The Fire Department was called to the school after a report of an unresponsive student at lunch. Another student was also found unresponsive and a third reportedly told officials they had all taken the banned synthetic drug Mojo. At last report, the conditions of the three teens was unknown.

An Oakdale woman accused of killing, burning, and burying a pregnant woman and her unborn baby wants to change her plea. Pamela Causey-Fregia wants to plead not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2011 death of Victoria Perez and her unborn child. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it’s often difficult to establish an insanity defense…:

Hurricane Danny continues to churn in the Atlantic as the first hurricane of the 2015 season. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s a relatively small storm with hurricane force winds extending only 10 miles from the center. He says that makes it much harder to predict what exactly it will do so we need to keep an eye on it..:

27-year-old 27-year-old Terry Landry is charged with domestic abuse battery, false imprisonment and criminal neglect.

The Department of Health and Hospitals confirms 20 cases of West Nile have been reported so far this year. State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says of these cases, 10 were the neuroinvasive disease, the more serious form of the virus. He says a small number of infected people will develop serious symptoms…:

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says two men have been cited for alleged alligator violations in Grant Parish. They say 38-year-old Chad Watts and 43-year-old Patrick Daniels of Colfax took alligators during a closed season and with no license. 12 gators were found recently harvested at the subject’s residence. The two face hefty fines and up to 120 days in jail.
