State Police have identified the man fatally shot by a St. Bernard Sheriff’s deputy after a Tuesday altercation. Trooper Evan Harrell says 21-year-old Tyrone Bass of New Orleans was shot dead after attacking a deputy with an object…:

He says investigators are working to determine how many officers shot at Bass and how many shots were fired. The deputy’s name and the type of object used in the attack have not been released.

Two more lawmakers have been added to the list of those who will be running without opposition in the October 24th primary. The state House says Hammond Representative Chris Broadwater and Covington Representative Paul Hollis both had challengers who have decided not to run for the office. The number of legislators in the lower chamber who do not have opponents is 51 out of 105. 39 state senators are up for re-election and twenty won’t have a race to run.

There’s sad news coming out of Grambling State. The wife of legendary football coach Eddie Robinson, Doris Robinson, passed away this morning. She was 96-years-old.

A report from the National Center for Health Statistics shows kids get 12% of their calories from fast food. The study showed that children eat the equivalent of a small hamburger, such as the one in a Happy Meal, every day. The National Hurricane Center has begun issuing advisories on a newly formed Tropical Depression Nine way out in the Atlantic Ocean. They say the system is located about 1200 miles east of islands in the Caribbean and is moving north-northwest and is expected to turn toward the northwest Thursday night. Forecasters say there is currently no threat to land.

State Police say an attempted hit and run in Iberia Parish has left a Grant Parish woman dead. Master Trooper Brooks David says 35-year-old Angela Brown of Pollock crossed the center line of LA 86 and side swiped another vehicle…:

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. David says investigators also believe the woman was involved in a hit and run in St. Martin Parish just before the crash which claimed her life. Impairment is believed to be a factor in the crashes.

The campaign added that Jindal is preparing for the debate by hitting the gym then having a flew slices of pizza with a Diet Coke.

Authorities in Slidell say more details will be released today on the arson fire that destroyed an apartment complex in early September leaving dozens of people homeless. They say several agencies are involved in the investigation. 58-year-old David Rutledge was arrested this week and charged with arson and ten counts of attempted murder.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says alcohol is suspected to be a factor in a head on crash which claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman on Scenic Highway. They say Tashadow Gray was traveling north on the roadway when she was struck head on by Jeep that served into her lane. Gray died at the scene. The driver of the Jeep and a passenger were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Cops are not saying which driver or both were suspected of consuming alcohol.

There are concerns Louisiana travelers may need another form of picture ID in 2016 because the state is not in compliance with the federal REAL ID Act. State Police Col. Mike Edmonson with the REAL ID act, immediately upon arrival at an OMV, all documents must be scanned and a picture is taken.

An officer involved shooting in St. Bernard Parish has left one man dead. Authorities say the suspect attacked a Sheriff’s Office deputy with a railroad spike during a traffic stop. They say another deputy, who responed to a call for backup, shot and killed the attacker. The injured deputy was treated and released from a local hospital. The State Police investigation is ongoing.

West Monroe Police are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. They say an altercation Tuesday afternoon resulted with the victim being shot in the back of the head. Authorities say the man was alert and talking en route to a local hospital. There is currently no word on his condition.

Low poll numbers are once again keeping Governor Bobby Jindal out of tonight’s prime time Republican presidential candidate debate on CNN. A Plaquemines Parish mother has admitted in court that she used a large amount of hand sanitizer to kill her 17-month old son, who was a Down Syndrome child. Erika Wigstorm entered a plea of guilty to Manslaughter and was sentenced to 40 years without benefit of probation or suspension of sentence. The child died in January of 2014.

Republican lawmakers appeared before a Congressional hearing in New Orleans to criticize the Obama administration’s intent to toughen standards for offshore drilling. GOP Senator Bill Cassidy…

The latest annual report by the Violence Policy Center finds that Louisiana ranks fourth in the rate of women murdered by men. VPC Legislative Director Kristen Rand says stronger laws are needed to keep guns out of the hands of offenders…:

The research found that murders involving a female victim and a male offender took place at a rate of about 2 per 100,000 residents statewide.

The Plaquemine Parish DA says the mom from Belle Chasse who was accused of killing her baby by putting hand sanitizer in his feeding tube in 2014, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter. 17-month old Lucas Ruiz had Down Syndrome and died of ethanol intoxication with a blood alcohol content of .280%. The victim’s mother, Erika Wigstrom, was sentenced to forty years without the benefit of probation.

The SEC Network will air a documentary tonight about the life of Bo Rein, LSU’s coach going into the 80s who died in a plane crash before ever coaching a game for the Tigers. Eric Gill reports…:

Governor Bobby Jindal’s office announced today that his top budget adviser, Kristy Nichols, is resigning as Commissioner of Administration to work in the private sector. They say Stafford Palmieri will replace Nichols as the head of the DOA starting October 15th. The release indicates Nichols is taking a position with Ochsner Health System as Vice President for Government and Corporate Affairs.

Higher education in central Louisiana seems to be attracting more students. Louisiana State University of Alexandria says this fall they’ve reached the highest enrollment in school history, with 3,104 students. They say it’s a nearly 15 percent increase over fall last year and a 39% jump from 2013.
