Authorities say an officer involved shooting in Alexandria has left one man dead. They say 27-year-old Bobby Anderson of Alexandria was shot and killed by a US Marshals Violent Offender Task Force member while they were attempting to serve arrest warrants. It’s reported that Anderson was armed and threatening officers which resulted in a Task Force member firing his weapon. Anderson was wanted for two counts of attempted second degree murder and several other felony charges.

Chairwoman of the Louisiana Super Region Rail Authority, Kristen Palmer, says the rail service would operate on existing freight lines and the average trip between the Capital City and the Big Easy would be about 90 minutes…

A federal judge in Baton Rouge denied Governor Bobby Jindal’s request to block federal officials from penalizing the state if Louisiana decides to stop using the Common Core education standards. Judge Shelly Dick rejected the governor’s motion for a preliminary injunction, because Jindal’s lawyers didn’t show any evidence that such a threat will occur.

Parish leaders along I-10 between New Orleans and Baton Rouge gathered today to urge the next Louisiana governor to support a proposed railway commuter line that would connect the state’s two largest cities. Kristen Palmer, chairwoman of the Louisiana Super Region Rail Authority, says the commuter railway would give residents better access to jobs and help traffic on I-10…

According to a new study, about 12% of kids’ daily calories comes from fast food. The National Center for Health Statistics says that youngsters between the ages of 12 to 19 ate twice as many calories from fast food as children ages two to 11. Dr. Melinda Sothern, with the LSU Health Sciences Center, says researchers did not find any differences in caloric consumption by gender, weight or poverty status, but…:

She says she hopes this study will help parents keep a better eye on what their kids are eating.

Leaders are once again opening the discussion about creating a railway commuter line that would connect Baton Rouge and New Orleans. During a gathering in Gonzales today, parish presidents and representatives from the seven parishes along the would-be route got together to urge the next Louisiana governor to back the project. The Southern Rail Commission plans to present funding options to the gubernatorial candidates later this fall.

The Grambling State University family is mourning the loss of Doris Robinson, the spouse of the late Legendary Coach Eddie Robinson, Sr. Family members report that Mrs. Robinson passed away peacefully at 8 a.m. this morning after a brief illness at the age of 96. Grambling head football coach Broderick Fobbs says Mrs. Robinson always looked at the GSU football players as her own kids…:

Two more lawmakers have been added to the list of those who will be running without opposition in the October 24th primary. The state House says Hammond Representative Chris Broadwater and Covington Representative Paul Hollis both had challengers who have decided not to run for the office. The number of legislators in the lower chamber who do not have opponents is 51 out of 105.

Governor Bobby Jindal today lost his lawsuit to challenge Common Core nationally. The Administration claimed the education standards represented a federal overreach, but the US District judge in Baton Rouge said there was no evidence to support such a claim. Jindal’s lawyer says they planned to appeal.

State Police say an attempted hit and run in Iberia Parish has left a Grant Parish woman dead. Master Trooper Brooks David says 35-year-old Angela Brown of Pollock hit a car on LA 86 then, and as she tried to flee, ran off the road and struck a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene. David says authorities have linked Brown to a second hit and run that occurred just before the fatal crash…:

The Baton Rouge Police Department says a 19-year-old college bound student was killed in a head on crash last night on Scenic Highway. They say 19-year-old Tashadow Gray was hit head on when a vehicle driven by 30-yaer-old Tnaia Burnette swerved into her lane. Gray was pronounced dead on the scene. Cops believe Burnette was drinking and charges could be coming.

State Police say a woman from Grant Parish died when she crashed into a tree after investigators believe she’d already been involved in two hit and run crashes. Master Trooper Brooks David says 35-year-old Angela Brown of Pollock side swiped a vehicle in Iberia Parish, then when she tried to flee that’s when she crashed. He says she died at the scene and the investigation is ongoing…:

He says they believe Brown was involved in a hit and run crash in St. Martin Parish just prior to the fatal crash.

Kids are getting 12% of their daily calories from fast food accoring to a study by the National Center for Health Statistics. A university spokesperson says Mrs. Robinson had been in the hospital after suffering from a recent illness.

Today a judge rejected Governor Bobby Jindal’s request to keep the federal government from penalizing Louisiana if it chooses to block Common Core. Jindal had claimed in his lawsuit that the US Department of Education was forcing states to move towards a national curriculum, but US District Judge Shelly Dick says there is no evidence to support that claim and that the programs are voluntary and the Constitution is not being violated. Jindal’s attorney says they plan to appeal.

A report from the National Center for Health Statistics finds children consume an average of 12 percent of their daily calories from fast food. Professor with the LSU Health Sciences Center Dr. Melinda Sothern says the study shows younger children eat 9 percent of their calories in fast food compared to 17 percent of teens. She says this shows younger parents are being a little more cognizant of what their kids are eating…:

A Marine from Denham Springs who was killed in a rollover crash during a training exercise in California will be received in New Orleans on Friday. Cpl Bryan Lauw’s body will be escorted to Denham Springs and is expected to arrive at 7pm. Friends and family would like the communities along the route to give Lauw a hero’s welcome.
