A music icon from New Orleans, Allen Toussaint, passed away Monday after reportedly suffering a fatal heart attack after a performance in Spain. Toussaint’s songs have been covered by the biggest names in music. Louisiana Music Hall of Fame President Mike Shepherd says Toussaint was a true representative of New Orleans and he will be greatly missed…:

The FBI is reportedly assisting in the case of the Marksville officer-involved shooting that killed a 6-year-old and left his father, Chris Few, injured. A judge issued a gag order and the media is being denied requests for public records. It’s also reported that the condition of the father, Few, is now listed as “confidential” — meaning there will be no more updates provided on his condition.

Bayou Country Superfest Producer Quint Davis announces the lineup for next year’s shows in Tiger Stadium includes Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker and Little Big Town. The Memorial Day concerts span three days, May 27th-29th, and Davis says if you’ve never been, you won’t beleive your eyes…:

The rumors of New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton leaving the team after this season are not over. Yahoo Sports reporter Charles Robinson says he’s heard from a source that there’s a 50-50 chance Payton will not return for the 2016 season and a lot of the decision depends on the legal battle with Owner Tom Benson and his former heirs.

Additional information will be hard to come by regarding last week’s shooting in Marksville where a six-year-old boy was fatally shot and two city marshals were charged in his death. An attorney for the Louisiana State Police has denied a public records request from news outlets seeking information in the Jeremy Mardis shooting. A judge has issued a gag order.

The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled Louisiana can keep the final Angola 3 inmate in jail and try him again in the 1972 killing of a prison guard. Legal analyst Tim Meche says even though a US District Judge ruled that Albert Woodfox shouldn’t have to face a third 40 year old trial, the 5th Circuit disagreed. He says trying this case poses many issues…:

Amnesty International contends the convictions of Woodfox are riddled with flaws, and he’s unjustly been held in cruelty for several decades.

Bayou Country Superfest organizers announced this morning that yet another star studded lineup will hit Tiger Stadium over Memorial Day Weekend 2016. In its 7th year, the BCS will showcase Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Eric Chuch, Dierks Bentley, Darius Rucker, Little Big Town and Lady Antebellum just to name a few.

The Council for a Better Louisiana and Louisiana Public Broadcasting are hosting tonight’s televised gubernatorial debate between Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards. CABL President Barry Erwin says they hope to make this feel more like a real debate with more back and forth between the candidates…:

The two candidates for Governor in the November 21st runoff will face off in a debate hosted by Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Council for a Better Louisiana tonight. The debate between Republican David Vitter and Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Bel Edwards begins at 7PM and will be televised statewide on LPB stations.

The US 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled Louisiana can keep the final Angola 3 inmate in jail and try him again in the 1972 killing of a prison guard. Edwards says as governor, he will be the leader that puts Louisiana first. He says after 8 years of Governor Jindal’s failed leadership and disastrous polities, it’s time for a change…

The two candidates did go face to face yesterday during a forum at the Baton Rouge Press Club. Vitter says he and Edwards have starkly different voting records and will take the state in opposite directions. He says the Edwards campaign wants to avoid discussing the key issues Louisiana is facing.

The city of Marksville is still coping with last Tuesday’s fatal city marshal shooting that killed 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis. Because Mardis and his father, Chris Few, are white and the suspects, Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse, Jr., are black, there is concern that some will try to make this incident a racial issue. Marksville state Representative Robert Johnson doesn’t believe that to be the case…

Jerry Palm with CBSsports-dot-com believes there’s still a chance that LSU will be one of four teams to make it to the College Football Playoff, even after the loss to Alabama. He says having one loss doesn’t automatically mean you won’t make the playoffs and he doesn’t think that all of the teams will be undefeated anyway…

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned the release of Angola 3 inmate Albert Woodfox and rules that plans to try him for a third time for the 1972 murder of a prison guard can continue. The appellant court says US District Judge James Brady abused his discretion in his June order to immediately release Woodfox and barring a third trial. Both of Woodfox’s convictions in the murder of Brent Miller have been overturned.

Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter will participate in a gubernatorial debate tonight that will air on LPB stations around the state beginning at 7PM. U-L Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Edwards still needs to introduce himself to voters.

Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon is named the Lousiana Sports Writers Association’s Offensive Player of the Week. Dixon set a Conference USA record rushing for six touchdowns in the Bulldog’s 56-13 win over North Texas. Nicholls State’s Ahmaini Martin was named LSWA’s Defensive Player of the Week. Martin had 10 tackles and an interception in the Colonels win over Lamar last Saturday.

The new CFP rankings come out tonight and CBSsports-dot-com’s Jerry Palm believes there’s still a chance that LSU will be one of four teams to make it to the College Football Playoff. But he says if both LSU and Alabama win the rest of their games, the Tigers could end up being the SEC representative in the Sugarbowl…

The New Orleans Saints have signed former LSU quarterback Matt Flynn to the roster. Flynn will step in and replace Luke McCown as the back up to starting quarterback Drew Brees. McCown injured his back last week and was placed on the injured reserve list to open a roster spot for Flynn. McCown is expected to have surgery on his back today, which will end his season.

The Pelicans are still looking for win number one this season. They’re hoping to get it tonight against the Mavericks at the Smoothie King Center.
