The University of New Orleans has released their 2015 Louisiana Gubernatorial Runoff Survey and it reveals that Edwards enjoys a 22 point lead over Vitter among likely voters. A new poll on the governor’s race released by The Advocate shows Democrat John Bel Edwards’ double-digit lead over Republican David Vitter slipping a bit. According to the survey, conducted by Market Research Insight, Edwards beats Vitter, 52 to 38 percent, if roughly 26-percent of African-Americans vote in the election. ULM Political Science Professor Joshua Stockley doesn’t think these results really surprise anyone…

Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Doug Anderson says paperwork issues are delaying the release of 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse, Jr. on a $1 million bond. Greenhouse is one of two officers charged in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy in Marksville. Greenhouse’s father, an Avoyelles Parish assistant district attorney, was arranging to post a property bond for his son using his land. Louisiana law prohibits attorneys from posting bond for defendants.

Early voting for the November 21st runoff continues today. As of this morning, there were 119-thousand early votes, compared to 88-thousand for the same time period in the primary. Pollster John Couvillon of JMC Analytics says larger parishes are early voting heavily…

Voter turnout for the primary was 39-percent, which was lower than anticipated. Early voting ends Saturday.

A new study out of Reading University finds drinking one to three glasses of champagne a week can aid in preventing Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Dr. Jeff Keller with LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center says champagne, like red wine, contains polyphenols, which are known to have great health benefits…

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office says a fight over a dog sale led to the death of a Thibodaux man. They say 38-year-old Danny Breaux arranged to purchase a dog from 39-year-old Cuong Tran, but left with the dog without paying. Breaux returned later and an argument ensued which led to Breaux punching Tran. Tran collapsed and hit his head on the roadway. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died. Breaux faces a charge of second degree murder.

Joe’s Crab Shack, which has two locations in Louisiana, is the first major restaurant chain to experiment with a no-tipping policy. The restaurant said front house workers at select restaurants will now earn hourly wages of around $12-$14 and prices on the menu increase around 15%. Don Kasten, Assistant Professor at Nicholls State’s Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, expects this to become a trend…

Legal analyst Tim Meche says regardless of the crime, you have a constitutional right to be released on bond. He says as long as Greenhouse is present on his court date, everything is satisfied…

West Monroe Police say a man and woman are under arrest accused of leaving a dog to die. They say Nitiana Moore and Brandon Roberson left town October 28th after failing to find someone to take care of the dog. When the pair returned home on November 10th, they found the dog dead. Authorities say it appears the dog starved to death. Moore and Roberson are booked on aggravated animal cruelty charges.

The latest campaign finance report on the governor’s race shows Democrat John Bel Edwards’ fundraising efforts picking up considerable steam. Since November 2nd, Edwards has raised approximately $1.5 million, with half of that amount being received Sunday and Monday. Republican David Vitter reported $130,000 raised in the same time frame.

Dr. Frank Welch, with the Department of Health and Hospitals, says this year’s flu season is getting off to a slow start and now is the time to get a flu shot. He says temperatures will be cooler this weekend, forcing more people inside and that’s how the flu bug gets around…

Louisiana State Police arrest an “on-duty” Shreveport firefighter after he allegedly tried to meet with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl and her mother to have a sexual encounter with both. Trooper Matt Harris says 35-year-old Brian Garza left the station for the meetup, but found troopers instead…:

Garza was charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, computer aided solicitation of a minor and prostitution.

The two candidates for governor touched on several key policy issues during last night’s debate televised by Louisiana Public Broadcasting. Democrat John Bel Edwards says he supports charter schools, but high performing districts should be given the option to opt out of they choose. But Republican David Vitter, who supports charter schools without reservation, says limiting the opportunity to districts with low letter grades, would alienate thousands of students who happen to be in high a performing district…:

One of the Marksville officers involved in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy and injuring of his father, is reportedly set to be released on a million dollars bond tomorrow. Apparently 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr.s’ dad is securing property to come up with the bond. Greenhouse and Derrick Stafford are each charged with second degree murder in the fatal shooting of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

You’ve probably noticed we’re dealing with a major mosquito problem in Louisiana right now, even this far into November. Colby Colona, President of the Louisiana Mosquito Control Association, says blame the weather..:

She urges folks to protect themselves from mosquitoes until things really start to cool off. Colder temperatures are expected to move in over the next several days.

During the LBP debate last night, things got heated toward the end with Democrat John Bel Edwards calling Republican opponent David Vitter a liar and a cheater, and Vitter accusing the West Point graduate of not living by the Honor Code. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan doesn’t feel there was a “winner” of the debate, but this bickering will continue..:
