The LHSAA has ruled that the Amite football team can’t play in their Class 3A playoff game because of a fight that broke out during their Bogalusa contest that cleared the benches. The organization’s rules say players who leave the bench to fight are suspended for the next game. Tangipahoa School system has filed a suit and attorney Chris Moody says the punishment doesn’t add up…:

Governor-elect John Bel Edwards reportedly plans to issue an executive order with the intent of protecting gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender state workers and contractors from unfair treatment and discrimination. Former Democratic Governors Edwin Edwards and Kathleen Blanco signed similar mandates to protect LGBT state workers from harassment.

State Police is investigating the case of a man who they say committed suicide in a Morehouse Parish Courthouse during his hearing. It’s reported that 42-year-old Keith Atkins was in jail on kidnapping and drug charges. Trooper Michael Reichardt…:

State Senator Troy Brown is reportedly facing even more heat now following his arrest in New Orleans after the Bayou Classic when cops say he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face. Apparently the address Brown gave cops was to a residence in Geismar, and not in the district he represents. State law requires the legislature to have their domicile in their districts.

Amite High is fighting the decision by the LHSAA to disqualify them from the Class 3A playoffs after an on-field altercation cleared the benches during the quarterfinal victory over Bogalusa. Rules say players who leave the bench to fight are to be suspended for the next game. Tangipahoa School system attorney Chris Moody argues players left the sidelines because the team was about to kick an extra point…:

In this week’s issue of People magazine, actress Sandra Bullock says she adopted a 3 and a half year old Louisiana girl named Laila (pronounced Lila) who had been in foster care. Bullock, who has been involved in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina, adopted her now 5-year-old son Louis from the Big Easy in 2010. Bullock says she hopes to shine a light on the hundreds of thousands of children currently in foster care in the US.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has removed the Amite football team from the Class 3A playoffs as a result of a benches clearing fight that erupted in a quarterfinal victory over Bogalusa. Tangipahoa School System attorney Chris Moody says they’ve filed a suit and hope a state judge reveres what he calls a “harsh” decision…:

State Police say a man from Tennessee died after his 18-wheeler crashed into the trailers of two other mac trucks on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge Tuesday afternoon. They say 42-year-old Karl Lindberg was likely unable to avoid hitting the other big rigs who had to suddenly stopped due to traffic congestion on I-10 in Iberville Parish. Lindberg of Crossville, Tennessee died at a local hospital.

State Senator Troy Brown who was arrested over the weekend in New Orleans for allegedly punching his mistress, is now being questioned about where he actually lives according to a WWL-TV report. The report indicates Brown told cops he lived in Geismar, but the home is not located in Senate District 2, which Brown represents. The state constitution requires members of the state Legislature to have their domicile in their districts. This is a developing story.

LSU will find out its bowl destination this week. Jeff Palermo looks at the possibilities…:

Also making waves in the Louisiana sports world today — The LHSAA says the Amite High football team has been removed from the Class 3A semi-finals following an on-field fight during the Bogalusa game that cleared both benches. 11th seeded AHS was set to host No. 15 St. James Friday night, but due to the suspension, St. James automatically advances to the 3A title game. Amite appealed, but the LHSAA rejected it this morning.

The Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office says a shooting at the parish courthouse has left one dead. They say Keith Atkins, who was arrested earlier this year on kidnapping and other charges, was in court for a status hearing when he got into a scuffle with deputies. During the altercation, Atkins was able to take a gun from one of the deputies and committed suicide. There were no other injuries in the incident and authorities say the public was never in danger. State Police are investigating.

We’ll find out the college football bowl match ups this weekend. Jerry Palm with cbs-sports-dot-com says Louisiana Tech could play in the R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. He says Southern Miss could be the other option from Conference USA to play a school from the Sun Belt…

State Climatologist Barry Keim says cooler temperatures are in store for the Bayou State thanks to a cold front that moved through Tuesday. He says some areas of the state will see low temperatures in the 30s for the next couple of days. But Keim says these cold conditions will be short lived…

Kenner Police say a 14-year-old boy is under arrest after shooting two girls with a pellet gun at Theodore Roosevelt Middle School. Authorities say one student was hit in the stomach and the other in the leg. Neither of the girl’s injuries are considered serious. The unidentified suspect is charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and two counts of battery. Police say the suspect brought an Airsoft gun to school in his school bag.

According to State Climatologist Barry Keim, cooler temperatures are in store for the state. He says you can expect clouds and scattered showers across much of the state today with temperatures mostly in the 50s. But Keim says skies should begin clearing tonight, bringing chilly temperatures to Louisiana Thursday…

After some unseasonably warm temperatures over the Thanksgiving holiday, cooler temperatures are in store for the Bayou State. State Climatologist Barry Keim says a cold front moved through the state Tuesday, bringing cooler air for the next few days. He says frontal overrunning weather conditions are affecting much of the state today….
