There was a fatal police shooting in New Orleans this morning. Chief Michael Harrison says one of his officers, Fredrick Carter, fatally shot a suspect during a traffic stop in New Orleans east. Harrison says the officer’s body camera shows Carter returning fire after the suspect shot once at the officer.

Sigma Chi International Fraternity has closed its LSU chapter amid alleged drug and hazing policy violations. The University put the fraternity on interim suspension November 3rd and say while the investigation is not complete, Sigma Chi will not be allowed on campus through the end of 2018.

Governor-elect John Bel Edwards sent a letter to the Speaker of the Louisiana House, Representative Chuck Kleckley, to formally resign as the State Representative for House District 72. In a statement, Edwards thanks his Amite District for allow him to serve and says he’s resigning in order to devote his full attention to the transition to the Office of the Governor.

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva announces today that a statue has been commissioned of LSU All-America and NBA star Bob Pettit. It’s expected to be unveiled prior to the conclusion of the 2015-2016 basketball season. Pettit played at LSU in the 1952, 1953 and 1954 seasons and scored 1,916 points. The life-size statue will be placed in the area in the front of the Basketball Practice Complex near the Shaq statue.

Authorities say an elderly woman from Iberville Parish died this morning after the truck she was driving went into a bayou in Grosse Tete. They say 78-year-old Geneva Jenkins was removed from the submerged vehicle and taken to the hospital where she died. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
