The state treasury department issued a release once again telling folks to be sure to check their website for unclaimed property, as more than 4,000 borrowers in Louisiana are owed money from a settlement with mortgage services stemming from the 2008 housing bubble burst. They say more than $2 million dollars is owed to Louisianians with the average amount at $300 per borrower.

Alligators have been popping up in unusual places throughout the state, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has some recommendations if you encounter one. LDWF Alligator Program Manager Edmond Mouton says if you see an alligator in an area that could pose a public safety hazard, call LDWF immediately. He says state law prohibits taking care of it yourself…:

Two people have been arrested in connection to the death of a Slidell man who was the victim of a deadly social media scheme. 28-year-old Terrance Calloway and 23-year-old Dana Lemar are charged with second degree murder and obstruction of justice. Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith says investigators used cell phone information to try and locate where the victim, 25-year-old Cordarlye Roberts, could be.”..:

Two arrests have been made in the murder of the Raising Cane’s shift manager who was killed during an armed robbery. 23-year-old Joshua Every and 24-year-old Mark Crocklen are both charged with armed robbery and first degree murder for the death of 21-year-old Taylor Friloux. Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser says the suspects are going back and forth about who stabbed the girl, but the video clearly shows what happened.

Cuts will still need to be made on government services when the new fiscal year starts tomorrow, but the concern is that there will be a deficit in the current year that would carry over. Authories say the Kenner Raising Canes manager who was murdered at work was stabbed 8 times while laying on the ground. Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser says 21-year-old Taylor Friloux resisted opening the door for the men but was forced to when she was stabbed in the chest. One man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Monroe. State Trooper Michael Reichardt says deputies were following up on a domestic violence call when the suspect began brandishing a weapon at them, so they fired. Reichardt says the deputies were not harmed, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to sources, two people have been arrested in the case of a missing Slidell man, Cordaryle Robert. His body was found yesterday in a drainage ditch in Harvey near Boomtown Casino. Jefferson Parish officials said his body showed signs of trauma and was found face down, partially submerged in a ditch.

An officer-involved shooting in Monroe left one suspect dead in the overnight hours. State Trooper Michael Reichardt says police responded to a domestic violence call just after midnight. He says the suspect opened the door brandishing a weapon and he was told many times to drop it…:

Kenner Police today gave a chilling description of the murder of 21-year-old Taylor Friloux at Raising Cane’s. They said she had a total of 8 stab wounds including one to her aorta which is likely what ultimately lead to her death. The second suspect is identified as Mark Crocklen Jr. Both he and Joshua Every are charged with armed robbery and first degree murder.

He says the suspect ignored deputies commands to drop his weapon which is when the cops shot and killed him. An investigation is pending.

Shreveport Police say a 45-year-old unidentified woman involved in a train-car collision has died. They say Wednesday afternoon, 44-year-old Shane Ferguson of Shreveport, the victim and a 15-year-old were on their way to a funeral. Ferguson was driving and the conductor said even though he was sounding the engine’s horn, the car tried unsuccessfully to beat the train. Ferguson and the teen remain in University Health and are expected to recover.

A statewide campaign begins today that seeks to reduce drunk driving this Fourth of July weekend. Jessica Bedwell with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission says the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign will include multiple enforcement efforts aimed at keeping drunk drivers off the road. She says this risky behavior can result in more than just a DWI…:

Bedwell says they also ask people to eliminate distractions while behind the wheel and focus on driving safely.

State Police say they are investigating a fatal officer involved shooting in south Monroe that took the life of a man. They say Ouachita Parish Deputies were responding to a domestic dispute, and when they arrived the victim informed them that the suspect was at another residence. It’s alleged that when the deputies confronted the suspect at that home, he brandished a weapon and that’s when he was fired upon and died. Names of those involved aren’t being released at this time.
