Governor John Bel Edwards will be heading back to Washington, DC this week to meet with congressional leaders about getting more aid to Louisiana. He sent another letter to the White House asking for an additional $800 million dollars, on top of the $2 billion he was originally seeking. The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy who was critically injured in the July ambush on police officers is headed to The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research in Houston, according to his father. Deputy Nick Tullier was one of six officers who were shot during an ambush shooting on Sunday, July 17. James Tullier said they heard back late Monday evening from TIRR saying they would happily take Nick.

He says people who live in areas that did not experience any flooding will not see the rate increase.

FEMA announces an extended deadline for Louisiana National Flood insurance Program policyholders affected by the August floods to file proof-of-loss claims. You now have 120 days from the date of your loss to file a flood insurance claim if you’re a Louisiana NFIP policyholder.

LSU Football Coach Les Miles is not ready to say to the public who will start at quarterback this Saturday against Mississippi State. He did say that they’ll need both quarterbacks, Brandon Harris and Danny Etling, to play in every game.

Governor John Bel Edwards has requested an additional 800 million dollars in federal dollars for disaster relief. The now 2.8 billion dollar request will be considered by Congress in the coming weeks. Edwards says the extra money will go towards flood control projects, instead of requiring flood victims to elevate their homes:

Louisiana residents who live in areas that flooded this year will pay more for car insurance as a result of the 2016 floods, according to state Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon. He says drivers’ comprehensive coverage will rise because over 100-thousand cars were destroyed by the flood..:

Democratic US Senate candidate Caroline Fayard has won the endorsement of New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu. Political analyst Clancy Dubos says Landrieu’s endorsement is a nice feather in the cap of Fayard’s campaign:

LSU football coach Les Miles declined to name a starting quarterback at today’s luncheon with reporters. The coach says he’d rather talk to his team first, but did say that they’ll need to play Brandon Harris and Danny Etling in every game. Governor John Bel Edwards has upped his request in federal aid for last month’s devastating flooding to two-point-eight billion dollars. The governor says the additional 800-million dollars will be used on projects that would protect homes and businesses from future flooding.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is investigating a boat crash in St. Mary Parish that claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl. LDWF Spokesperson Adam Einck says at around 2 p.m. yesterday a bass boat with one passenger, collided with an aluminum vessel carrying four people in Bayou Cheramie. He says the collision caused Jaidyn Montet (Mon-tay) to hit her head:

Delta Regional Authority announces they will invest $72 million in Louisiana to strengthen infrastructure, prepare for disasters, build the workforce, and support small businesses. Federal Co-chairman Chris Masingill says they are investing $275-thousand for two water pumps in Assumption parish. He says the water pump near Paincourtville was damaged by the tornado in February, leaving many residents without clean water.

Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden is facing scrutiny after being in Taiwan last week instead of speaking before Congress alongside the mayors of the flood ravaged cities of Central, Denham Springs and Walker. Holden says some candidates for Baton Rouge mayor are attacking his lack of presence during this difficult time. But he says Baton Rouge isn’t going to fall apart because there is communication between his staffers and everyone is working together.

A Baton Rouge woman has been arrested after accidentally killing her boyfriend during an argument. Baton Rouge Police Sgt. Don Coppola says 25-year-old Larriana Hughes shot her boyfriend, 27-year-old Christopher Payne, while trying to put a gun away. He says Huges sustained minor injuries during the dispute before she was arrested.

AAA says the switch to winter blend gasoline has caused gas prices to fall nationwide for 12 straight days. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular in Louisiana is now $2.00, down about 4 cents from the prior week.

The Coast Guard continues to respond to the oil spill near Bay Long, as more than 6,000 gallons of oily-water mixture have been recovered.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Ian has formed in the Atlantic Ocean, but it is not projected to threaten land at all at this time. They are watching another disturbance near the Bahamas that is not expected to develop into a tropical system.
