Tensions have run high between the Edwards Administration and the Office of Attorney General Jeff Landry, and the jabs keep coming. Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne believes it started when Landry was apparently trying to get a monthly car allowance from the state, as well as have ability to file mileage reimbursements…:

The AG’s office denies that Landry was trying to double up on car benefits from the state, and that the administration is trying to distract from tax increases.

New Orleans Representative Helena Moreno is the latest to call for the resignation of State Senator Troy Brown over his domestic abuse arrests. She said in a statement that as a legislative body, they have shown that this type of behavior should never be tolerated and definitely not by any of its members. Governor John Bel Edwards has also called for Brown to step down. It’s reported Brown intends to release a statement by the end of the week.

Think you’re getting sick or have a broken arm? Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana’s smartphone app now has a symptom checker. Owner of the mobile app, Kassim Rasoulian, says the symptom checker is available to both members and non-members. Another prostitution sting targeting the website Backpage.com has netted more arrests on prostitution counts. Officials arrested a women from Baton Rouge, West Monroe and Houston apparently working out of Baton Rouge hotels and arranging prices for sex ranging from $130-$300 with undercover detectives.

Flooded streets are a real threat through Saturday morning as a weather system funnels Gulf moisture into Southeast Louisiana for the next couple of days. A flood watch continues for the region through Saturday morning. It’s an area of low pressure forecasters say should be gone by the weekend, where scattered storms will linger but at least we’ll see some sunshine.

More and more travelers are choosing New Orleans as their vacation destination. Kristian Sonnier with the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau says the Big Easy is now the second most popular destination for international travelers, behind New York City. But he says the number of international visitors is growing much faster in New Orleans…:

Police in Abbeville say they are interviewing suspects in the case of the nurse who was allegedly kidnapped and abducted this morning. They say the woman was held at gunpoint and was demanded she reveal information about a doctor — possibly for the purposes of extortion. The investigation into this incident, exact motive and number of suspects is an ongoing effort, according to cops.

A crash with a fire truck sent six people in Baton Rouge to the hospital. The Baton Rouge Fire Department says it happened at the intersection of Florida Blvd. and Wooddale Blvd. The fire truck was t-boned while trying to get to a vehicle wreck on Greenwell Springs with its sirens and lights on. The three people in the vehicle, as well as, three in the fire truck were knocked unconscious. The fire truck driver suffered the most serious injuries.

 
Candiate for US Senate Troy Hebert is suing Southern Media and Opinion Research pollster Bernie Pinsonat for listing him as a Republican rather than an Independent in a poll. Hebert says he is not seeking damages in the suit, but it would be up to the judge to decide whether or not to award him any money in this case.

Dardenne says the capital outlay bill has become more of an extensive wish list than a plan of what the state can actually accomplish.

Rain has started pounding parts of southeast Louisiana, and much of the region is under a flash flood watch until Saturday morning. Forecasters say the watch zone has the potential to move westward as the slow moving system moves over the state. Meanwhile, much of the top half of the state is under a heat advisory until the sun goes down — where heat index readings are between 105-110 degrees.

Senate candidate Troy Hebert is suing Southern Media and Opinion Research
pollster Bernie Pinsonat claiming he misrepresented him in a May poll as a
Republican instead of an independent — which could have altered the
results that lead to him being left out of forums. But Pinsonat says polls
always have potential margins of error and should not be used in these
kinds of cases because of that margin. He says using the poll was their
decision, and he didn’t have anything to do with that…:

Governor John Bel Edwards is calling for the resignation of state Senator Troy Brown after his second domestic abuse arrest in less than a year. But Brown reportedly says he will not resign from the legislature. The senator was arrested last month on a misdemeanor domestic abuse battery charge for allegedly biting his wife on the arm. That arrest comes just 8 months after he was arrested for simple battery in New Orleans for allegedly punching his mistress in the face.
