A federal judge says seven out of ten counts against Jefferson are now invalid. The updated forecast track still shows Nate as a Category One storm making landfall from southeast Louisiana to the Florida panhandle. The National Hurricane Center has Nate as a hurricane in the southern Gulf of Mexico Saturday morning. Nate’s maximum sustained winds are at 40-miles per hour and northwest near nine miles per hour.

 

20 people have been arrested after an investigation into drug trafficking in Winn Parish.Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana Alexander Van Hook says the investigation began back in April of 2016 and 10 individuals face state charges and another 10 face federal charges….

He says the one individual not yet arrested is Cristina Santos, who is thought to be the ringleader and authorities believe she is in the Los Angeles area.

 

Visitation begins tonight for Lafayette Police Corporal Michael Middlebrook, who was gunned down Sunday night in a shooting outside of a convenience store. Lafayette Police Chief Toby Aguillard says when fellow officers arrived, they kneeled in respect then took off in pursuit of the suspect….

Tropical Storm Nate has formed near the coast of Nicaragua and the long range forecast calls for Nate to develop into a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and make landfall along the northern Gulf coast this weekend. The National Hurricane Center’s forecast track for the storm has moved west, so southeast Louisiana is now in the cone of uncertainity.

LSU researcher Eugene Turner has discovered the Menhaden, a small silver fish, that can be found along the Gulf coast has shrunk in size over the last 65 years, becuase of warmer sea surface temperatures…

Menhaden is known as one of the most economically important fish as they make up one-half of the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico fish harvest and they are a significant food source for birds, whales, striped bass and other animals.

Media reports say the startling discovery of the infant’s body was at Tensas Elementary School on Monday morning.

Norris Greenhouse Jr. was sentenced to seven and half years today for his role in the shooting death of 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.  The former Marksville Marshal pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and malfeasance in office.  An earlier trial stemming from the incident resulted in Derrick Stafford, another ex-Marshal, being sentenced to 40 years for manslaughter.  The shooting victim’s father, Christopher Few says he’s glad there will not be another trial.

The LSU fraternity pledge who died last month may have drank an excessive amount of alcohol during a drinking game according to Police records.  Legal analyst Tim Meche says although there is Louisiana law to hold someone responsible for causing an overdose by injecting illegal drugs, there is no such law for alcohol.  Because of this Meche says the fraternity members involved might avoid felony charges:

State Police continue to investigate the death of an infant that was found in a trash dumpster at the Tensas (TEN-SAW) elementary school. Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt (RIKE-HEART) anticipates a great deal of information to come from the coroner’s report.

Allergy sufferers might be suffering a bit due to the hot and humid conditions over the past few weeks. Doctor Sanjay (CAM-BO-JUH) Kamboj, an allergy expert at LSU Health New Orleans says those with allergies should use saline nasal spray twice a day, and follow that with nasal steroids…

The National Hurricane Center is predicting a hurricane along the Gulf Coast on Sunday. Foecasters are keeping an eye on Tropical Depression Number 16 in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. The current forecast track has what could be Hurricane Nate making landfall as a Category One storm anywhere between the Mississippi-Alabama line to Tampa, Florida.

More details have come out regarding the death of 18-year-old Maxwell Gruver, an LSU fratnerity pledge who died at last month. Police records indicate it’s possible Gruver and other pledges were forced to drink an excessive amount of alcohol as part of a drinking game. But Legal analyst Tim Meche says felony charges will be hard to pursue in this case…
