A man who spent nearly a half century in jail will be freed after his conviction is over turned.  65-year-old Wilbert Jones’ bail was set at two-thousand-dollars and is expected to be released tomorrow.  State District Court Judge Richard Anderson threw out his conviction after it was discovered authorities withheld “highly favorable” evidence that would have exonerated Jones in connection with a 1971 rape.

More information has come to light in the fatal shooting involving the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department.  When deputies arrived, Sheriff Randy Smith says 55-year-old Eddy Longoria of Dallas came out of his home Saturday night and started shooting.  That is when his three officers took defensive action, killing Longoria.  Smith is happy there weren’t other injuries…

DXC Technology will create over 2,000 jobs after their digital transformation center opens in New Orleans.   Demographer Greg Rigamer says although it will take a while to create all the new jobs, we should see 300 jobs in 2018.  He says seasoned employees in the technology field will be needed but this is also a great opportunity to get many young people into the industry.

With the announcement of DXC Technology opening a digital transformation center, over two-thousand direct jobs will be created in New Orleans over the next seven to eight years. Demographer Greg Rigamer says these new jobs are extremely significant for the technology community in the Crescent City. He says Louisiana provided $120 million in incentives to attract the company’s attention.

Rigamer says although it will take a while to create all the new jobs, we should see 300 jobs in 2018. He says seasoned employees in the technology field will be needed but this is also a great opportunity to get many young people into the industry.

Rigamer hopes this new hub in New Orleans will attract local people into these high paying jobs rather than those outside of the community. A Grambling State student that was arrested last month after a double homicide has been indicted on two counts for first degree murder.  19-year-old Jaylin Wayne allegedly fatally shot 23-year-old Earl Andrews, a senior at Grambling, and 23-year-old Monquairious Caldwell.  The Lincoln Parish DA says they may seek the death penalty pending the final police report.
