Savoy says the halt in the crawfish harvest will make it more difficult to find good size mudbugs for the upcoming carnival season.

Another hard freeze is expected tonight into tomorrow, with morning low temperatures in the low to mid 20s. Phil Grigsby, with the National Weather Service in Slidell, says we’ll have to wait until the weekend before the Bayou State can thaw out…

And there’s a possiblity we can see snow flurries after midnight in the Morgan City and Houma areas, possibly into metro New Orleans.

Fourth district Congressman Mike Johnson and Attorney General Jeff Landry have released a publication that lays out the rights students have when it comes to prayer and religious expression in public schools….

Johnson says the free online resource can be found at mike-johnson-for-Louisiana-dot-com. The U-S Representative says too many people have been misled into believing schools must be religious free zones when he says the truth is our First Amendment rights are not surrendered inside a school. Johnson was previously a constitutional law attorney prior to his election to Congress.

Still no word on if Matt Canada is done at LSU after one season as the Tigers offensive coordinator. Head Coach Ed Orgeron refused to comment about Canada’s future following the loss to Notre Dame yesterday.

Many find it hard to be motivated at work after taking time off for the holidays. And with the extended cold snap, it may be challenging to get out and go back to work.  But once you get there, CEO of Mid-America Careers Nick Murphy says do not be too hard on yourself as you get back into “work mode”…

There may be a large backlog of work that needs to completed that has stacked up.  Murphy says don’t feel as though everything needs to be done right away…

Fourth District Congressman Mike Johnson and Attorney General Jeff Landry have released the “Louisiana Student Rights Review”.   Johnson says the resource was created to answer many legal questions and to clear up misconceptions about religion on school campuses.

Recently a school in Johnson’s Congressional District came under fire after a teacher allegedly conducted open prayer with students.  And a mother filed suit against a Webster Parish school after claiming all school events, including graduations, had a degree of religious ceremonies.  Johnson feels the schools are not in the wrong.

Johnson says the publication is available for download and hopes everyone involved in the education system can benefit.

Johnson served as a constitutional law attorney for nearly 20 years prior to being elected to Congress, successfully defending religious freedom in school throughout Louisiana and nationwide.

The arctic blast keeping Louisianans indoors is threatening this year’s crawfish harvest. The state’s winters are usually wet and mild, perfect conditions for breeding plenty of big crawfish, but the near record lows have halted production. Louisiana Crawfish Promotion Board President David Savoy says if the below freezing temperatures continue, it could kill off a large part of this year’s harvest…

Savoy says this year’s struggles are tough to swallow after last year’s crop came with a low profit margin. He says in the meantime, expect much smaller crawfish…

The sudden freeze could end up making crawfish a hard find in time for an earlier than usual carnival season. Temperatures are set to return to winter norms next week, and Savoy says that’s the earliest he expects fishermen to be able to start trawling again.

State Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson says 2018 will see major work on Interstate 10. A widening project between Lafayette and the Atchafalya Basin will ramp up and they are breaking ground on another widening project in East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parishes. Wilson says both projects could lead to delays, so motorists need to be aware…

It’s cold for those who work outside, but State Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson says several major construction projects will take place in 2018. He says major work will be done on I-10, west of the Basin Bridge to Lafayette. They will also break ground on the widening of the highly traveled interstate between Highland Road in Baton Rouge to La 73.:

Wilson says I-49 north will also be completed in Caddo Parish.

Disappointing finish to the season for the LSU Tigers as Notre Dame scored a late touchdown to beat the Bayou Bengals 21-17.
