She was in the wrong place at the wrong time – a woman visiting New Orleans from Chicago celebrating her 33rd birthday is shot dead on Bourbon Street early Sunday morning. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says a fight broke out near Canal Street, and it culminated in gunfire.

Kirkpatrick says three others were injured in the shooting, including the woman’s sister. And the search is on for four people who were in a fight when gunfire rang out in the New Orleans French Quarter.

A Chicago woman was killed and three others injured in a Sunday morning shooting on Bourbon Street and New Orleans Police are looking for the suspected shooter seen on surveillance video wearing a gray and black hoodie. He is seen with another man and two women at the time of the shooting around 2 a.m. The New Orleans Police Department says a fight escalated leading to a “shootout” but the cause of the shooting remains under investigation. The woman who died was an innocent bystander in town celebrating her 33^rd birthday.

A fugitive for over 20 years, 61-year-old Van Leo has been sentenced to 3 life sentences in prison for the rape and molestation of several children in the 1990’s. Calcasieu Parish D.A. Stephen Dwight says Leo was brought back to Louisiana from Iowa. He says he thought he got away with it.

Van Leo owned a restaurant in Sulphur and Dwight says the victims, ages 4 years old to 12, were family members or friends of his family.

Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple supports a change in the hurricane rating system. He says a proposed new system would better assist governments decide when to issue evacuation orders. It would have given different ratings to notable storms of the past that were based solely on windspeed.

The Saints kept it close; but once again, they just couldn’t get over the hump as they fell to the Buffalo Bills, 31-19. The loss drops the Saints to 0-and-4 on the season and left quarterback Spencer Rattler still searching for his first NFL win as a starting quarterback. After the game, Head Coach Kellen Moore said the Saints will keep improving and will get into the win column soon.

The Saints appeared to take a 22-21 lead six minutes into the 4th quarter on a 17-yard pass to Brandin Cooks, but the touchdown was overturned after replay showed the ball hitting the turf. The Saints settled for a field goal, and the Bills scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to seal the win.

The family of a Southern University student who died as the result of an alleged hazing ritual earlier this year, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Omega Psi Phi.  Investigators have said 20 year old Caleb Wilson died after being repeatedly punched in the chest. His family claims fraternity members lied about what happened, and that delayed medical treatment.

An Amite man pleaded guilty to first-degree murder charges in the death of a 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter. Prosecutors say Daniel Callihan stabbed to death Callie Brunett 50-times in Loranger in June of 2024 and took her girls to Hinds County, Mississippi. That’s where four-year-old Erin Brunett was found dead. District Attorney Scott Perrilloux says Callihan will serve two life sentences with no possibility of parole…
