After a month on the lamb, 20 year old Preston Cason of Ville Platte is now in the clink, charged with theft and arson. Cason had several outstanding warrants, but it was the July 15th theft and torching of a pickup truck, that put him on the radar of the State Fire Marshal. Spokesperson for the agency, Ashley Rodrigue says authorities have attempted to have a conversation with him upon being captured, but he’s been less than loquacious.

Early frontrunner for the Saints backup running back position, Terrance West, has been released from the team after a preseason that saw him only feature on seven carries for 36 yards. With Jonathan Williams taking the lead after two preseason games, this likely clears up the question of just who will be backing up Alvin Kamara while Mark Ingram serves a four game suspension for violating the League’s PED policy.

Williams, the three year journeyman who’s played on three different teams in three years, has taken control of the backfield after an impressive training camp. He’s a big power back who should replicate much of the between the tackles short yardage work Ingram took responsibility for last year.

With one and two presumably locked down, the third running back slot is still up the grabs, but appears to be falling into the soft hands of former Ragin Cajun Boston Scott. The rookie scatback who was drafted in the sixth round of this year’s draft has shown good receiving skills, and speed off the edge in a roll that could become vital if Kamara were to ever go down for an extended period of time.

Lowell Narcisse And Justin McMillan announced they were transferring last week and a group of players first talked to coach orgeron then the players had their own meeting. Reportedly all SEC linebacker Devin White did most of the talking.

A 20-year-old Ville Platte man is now in custody after taunting, and then evading authorities for over a month.  Kevin Barnhart has details.

The Baltimore Ravens spoiled Andrew Luck’s Indianapolis homecoming.
They picked him off before allowing a completion, and Terrell Suggs nearly chopped the ball out of Luck’s hands on a sack. The Ravens then secured a 20-19 preseason win over the Colts by stopping a late 2-point conversion run.
Luck was just OK in his first home start since Jan. 1, 2017. But he did receive a roaring ovation from the crowd when he took the field, led the Colts to one score and apparently emerged unscathed after going down twice on sacks.

The Tiger’s just barely squeaked in under the bar for the AP Top 25 preseason poll, coming in at… 25. They’re the 5^th highest ranked SEC team in the poll, coming in behind Bama at 1, Georgia at 3, Auburn at 9, and Mississippi State at 18.

A family lawyer says the Twenty-five million dollars being sought by the Gruver family in the case related to his alleged hazing death is there to send a warning to other academic institutions about the need to taking hazing seriously. While one of the Gruver family’s attorneys Don Cazayoux says the no amount of money will bring back their loved one, the price tag is more about sending a message to all involved in the incident in hopes that it puts a stop to hazing culture.

Gov. John Bel Edwards praised a report showing that the number of residents who are uninsured has fallen to half of what it was in 2015, according to the 2017 Louisiana Health Insurance Survey. Edwards says Louisiana has not seen the closure of rural hospitals, unlike other states who did not expand medicaid, which he says adds to the reassurance his decision was a good one.
