Music’s biggest night is this weekend as the 61^st GRAMMY Awards takes place in Los Angeles.  Many Louisiana artists have been nominated throughout the years and this year is no different.  Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser Nungesser says the word GRAMMY originated from Louisiana.

An event known as “A Night on the River” takes place tonight at the Clive Davis Theatre at the GRAMMY Museum and will feature entertainment from various Louisiana performers.
National Signing Day has come and gone and saw LSU wrapping the day with the fifth-ranked class in the nation. Tiger Rag Associate Editor Tyler Nunez says grabbing the attention of many is the commitments of five star Destrehan running back John Emery and five star Baton Rouge cornerback Derek Stingley.

Cut 9 (13) “…go that far.”

Senator John Kennedy says to avoid another government shutdown, he thinks President Trump will declare a national emergency if negotiations fail to provide adequate funding for additional physical wall at the southern border by the February 15^th funding deadline. If the President makes the declaration, it would likely be immediately challenged in Congress, but would likely require two thirds of both chambers to support ending the emergency due to president veto power. Kennedy says after that, it would likely be taken up in the high court.

Biodegradable Mardi Gras beads are currently in the works following a grant received from the LSU board of supervisors last summer.  LSU biologist Dr. Naohiro Kato says initially when factoring in all of the costs, it appears at first the beads could cost initially around $13 a strain, but they are looking to bring the price down as it is estimated that four to five million beads are tossed each carnival season.

New Orleans Saints defender David Onyemata was given a misdemeanor citation by the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s accusing him of illegally possessing marijuana in his Elmwood apartment.  Investigators obtained a search warrant and found marijuana, cannabis oil, marijuana edibles and hemp powder the Tuesday of the search. Onyemata, was cooperative with investigators and received a summons to appear in court at a later date.

The Pelicans have traded veteran small forward Wesley Johnson to the Washington Wizards for power forward Markieff Morris and a 2023 second-round pick, according to a report from The Athletic.
Johnson, who came to the New Orleans this offseason from the Clippers in a trade for Alexis Ajinca on Oct. 15, has seen game time just twice in 2019 – totaling seven minutes in two games over the past 10 days with the Pelicans struggling through a slew of injuries.
The New Orleans Saints defense will be able to build on its momentum without undergoing significant changes next season.
According to a report from NFL Network on Sunday, the Saints are finalizing a deal with defensive coordinator Dennis Allen that will keep him in charge of the young defense. Allen’s contract expired at the end of the season, and he reportedly received interest from the Cincinnati Bengals for the same role.

According to 247Sports the Tigers finally tally comes out to 3 five stars, 11 four stars, and 10 three star recruits. The team stole four guys from Alabama, three from Georgia, and two from Texas and Utah, but Orgeron says they sent a message that the Boot is Baton Rouge territory with eight of the top ten Louisiana prospects putting on purple and gold.

Mallet says in a little more than a year’s time, in the stretch of I-10 between I-49 and Breaux Bridge saw about 470 crashes.

Mallett says the current administration has taken the initiative to invest in infrastructure, so there will be more construction zones pop up throughout the state for years to come, so the message to drivers is clear…

Reports say the Lakers bowed out of trade talks after the Pels demanded the Laker take on Solomon Hill’s contract, and in return send five young players and four to eight draft picks.

It’s far from certain that New Orleans will send Davis the LA. Madison says the team is better off waiting until summer when Boston becomes trade eligible, and can offer a compelling package of its own for the generational talent.

If Davis is not traded by the 2pm deadline today, then the team will be forced to decide whether to play him the rest of the year, or shut him down until the season ends. Madison says there’s not much of an incentive to let Davis take the court if he remains on the roster.

A now-former Vermilion Parish deputy is out of a job and behind bars after an investigation by the special victims unit of state police.  State Police Sgt. Jared Sandifer says the investigation of 42-year-old Bryan Kibodeaux of Abbeville began in late January from a tip given to law enforcement.

Sandifer says Kibodeaux was arrested following the execution of a search warrant of his home.

President Donald Trump spoke to the nation last night for this year’s State of the Union address, touching on a series of issues including the border wall debate, the economy, healthcare, and foreign policy issues. Senator Bill Cassidy says the President is willing to work with Democratic opposition in the House to find a border security compromise, but it must include funding for additional physical wall.

Entergy is bringing advanced meters to the company’s customers.  The roll out for homes and businesses starts this month in New Orleans.  Entergy VP of grid modernization Lauren Kenney says among the biggest benefits for customers is to be able to track energy usage via online tools, as opposed to waiting for the bill to come in at the end of the month, which means a monetary savings for customers.

Saints rookie pass rusher Marcus Davenport is recovering from surgery. He posted a picture on social media that shows him in the hospital and his right foot his heavily bandaged. Davenport wrote he played through a season ending injury and promises to come back better. We do know that Davenport suffered a toe injury during the season, but wasn’t on the injury report during the final weeks of the regular season or postseason.

The Pelicans are in Chicago tonight and Anthony Davis’ injured finger is healthy enough to practice, but the team will reportedly have him sit on the bench tonight. The Pels are apparently not interested in playing him until after Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

21st ranked LSU is at Mississippi State tonight. The Tigers have won four straight road games. Tip off is at 8 PM.
