The two Republicans in the governor’s race have made some big moves this week. Matt Doyle has the story.

Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu will appear at the Democratic Presidential debate tonight. He’ll be a commentator for CNN. Landrieu is the Cable News Network’s newest hire. The debate among democrats aiming for the White House is being held in in Detroit. (The debate begins at 7pm)

48-year-old James William Eaton of West Monroe is in jail after posing online as a woman and luring another man to drive from California to Ouachita Parish thinking he was marrying that woman.  Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Glen Springfield says the victim claims to have sent Eaton a total of $1000.

Springfield says Eaton never expected his victim would make an appearance in the Bayou state.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office is investigating a brutal double homicide. Sheriff Mike Tregre says the victims are 18 and 20-year old cousins from Reserve.  The investigation reveals they were stalked, hunted and executed. Sheriff Mike Tregre says he’s confident his deputies will make an arrest

The victims, 18-year-old Kerell Sanders and 20-year-old Kyron Perrilloux were found murdered in a car.

House Republican Chairman Lance Harris says he’s seeing a lot of support for Congressman Ralph Abraham for Governor in his Alexandria based district. After the Alexandria Republican’s attempt in the last session to roll back a 2018 sales tax failed, he got a call from the Congressman, who vowed, if elected, that he would get that effort over the finish line.

Meanwhile Republican Eddie Rispone is expected to begin a major statewide advertising campaign.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Glen Springfield says this case is another reminder to be careful with who you interact with online.

It is unclear how long the relationship had been going on.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide. Sheriff Mike Tregre says the victims have been identified as 18-year-old Kerell Sanders and 20-year-old Kyron Perrilloux. Both were from Reserve and they were cousins. Tregre says violence like this involving young men is far too common.

Three people are dead including a toddler, all from Olla, after an 18-wheeler rear-ended the Ford Fiesta they were traveling. State Trooper Scott Moreau says no one was wearing a seatbelt in the car. The two of the deceased were identified as 45-year-old Vicki Sears, 24-year-old Brittany Martin, and the toddler is unnamed. The 17-year old female driver of the Ford, the only survivor in the car, sustained moderate injuries. Moreau says this wreck is another reminder of the importance of seatbelts.

A West Monroe man is in jail after pretending to be a woman online and convincing another man to drive from California to Ouachita Parish.  Kevin Barnhart has the story.

A 62-year old Coushatte (Coo-shot-ah) man is facing several molestation charges of a juvenile. The Red River Parish Sheriff’s office received a complaint earlier this month from a victim and obtained forensic evidence to support the claim. Steven Pierce Weir (Ware) was a basketball coach and teacher at Riverdale Academy. The victim told police them the abuse began when he was a student in 2006 and continue after his graduation in 2012. Weir is in jail awaiting bond.

Three people are dead including a toddler, all from Olla, after an 18-wheeler rear-ended the Ford Fiesta they were traveling in, causing the vehicle to overturn. State Trooper Scott Moreau says no one was properly restrained in the Ford being driven by a 17-year-old girl, the only survivor in the vehicle.

The St. John Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double homicide. Sheriff Mike Tregre says the victims are cousins, 18 and 20-years old and they were found in a vehicle on West Airline Highway and East 22nd Street in Reserve. Sheriff Mike Tregre says they are looking for the suspects

Tregre is extremely confident they will make an arrest.

GOP governor’s race candidate Eddie Rispone is set to start spending big with a substantial ad blast coming to TV screens across the state set to reinforcement the candidate’s message that he’s the only pro-Trump, conservative, outsider in the race.

That’s Rispone campaign communications director Anthony Ramirez who says expect to see the candidate’s message on everything from nightly news to Monday Night Football.

The Louisiana Select Association has been formed within the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. The L-S-A is made up of private schools. Catholic High of Baton Rouge athletics director J-P Kelly says finding a host site for their championship games is a top priority…

A woman accused of murdering her five-year-old daughter is on life support. That’s according to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office, who says 24-year-old Jasmine Anderson attempted to hang herself. Anderson’s attorney, Chad Guillot says considering Anderson was in a mental facility when she was arrested, the jail should have taken more precautions.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says an Alexandria woman accused of murdering her five-year-old child is on life support after a suicide attempt. 24-year-old Jasmine Anderson was arrested on July 23rd for the death of her daughter, Audrey Lynn Chelette. Anderson’s attorney Chad Guillot says his client is on life support because she’s a registered organ donor…

There’s been public speculation Anderson may have something to do with her husband’s death in 2016, and the bottle cap choking death of her four-year-old son earlier this year. But police have said as of now, Anderson is not responsible for those deaths.

Riverdale Academy basketball coach and teacher Steven Weir has been charged with 25 counts of molestation of a juvenile. The Red River Parish Sheriff’s office says the victim was a student and the alleged sex acts occurred over a six-year period.

Two adults and a toddler have died from their injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in the LaSalle Parish town of Olla. The wreck involving an 18-wheeler and a Ford Fiesta occurred around 11:30 AM on Highway 127. The three passengers in the Ford Fiesta were pronounced dead at the scene. State Police say none of them, including the toddler, were restrained.

A West Monroe man has been arrested after he allegedly tricked a man from California to come to Ouachita Parish and marry him. The victim traveled to Louisiana thinking he would marry a woman by the name of Rose, instead, he found out it was 48-year-old James William Eaton, who also received a thousand-dollars and care packages during the course of the online relationship.

A new study from LSU Pennington Biomedical researchers finds that fat stored in unhealthy locations in the stomach doubles a colorectal cancer patient’s risk of death within seven years. Dr. Justin Brown says there are two places fat gets stored in the belly, under the skin and deep in the abdomen.

Brown says female colorectal cancer patients are more at risk for death if they have a high amount of fat stored deep inside the abdomen near vital organs.

A West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputy is being called a hero today after he prevented a pregnant woman from jumping off the I-10 Mississippi River bridge. The dramatic rescue happened yesterday afternoon, 175 feet above the river. Lt. Ken Albarez tried to talk the woman off the bridge for 45 minutes before he eventually grabbed her and pulled her to safety.
