The Caddo Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation today into Sunday’s deadly double shooting. Authorities say a man broke into his former girlfriend’s home and shot her current boyfriend. The intruder was also shot and both died. The woman and five children escaped through the kitchen door unharmed. Names of the deceased have not been released.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s office has identified the two-year old child who died as a result of an apparent accidental shooting in Shreveport. Ranaldo Bennett was struck by a bullet Friday morning and died two hours later. 19-year-old Jaylen Jones has been charged with negligent homicide and illegal possession of a firearm.

The two historic openings of the Bonnet Carre Spillway this year have made life difficult for those in the seafood industry in southeast Louisiana. Oyster beds have been destroyed and catches are down and fishermen have been forced to go out farther to catch fish and shrimp. Lt. Investigators say the mother was taking a nap and when she woke, realized that the child was not in the house with her other two children. The 3-year-old was found next to a shed in the yard with his clothes ripped from his body and covered in numerous injuries. Two pitbulls mix and a shepherd mix are suspect to be behind the attack.

Saints defensive lineman David Onyemata gets a one game suspension from the NFL for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. The details of what that violation are have not been released, but it’s thought to be connected to an indecent earlier this year when he had marijuana delivered to his house in Jefferson Parish.

The Saints’ Alvin Kamara and Ted Guinn will join other NFL stars this Saturday for the “40 yards of gold” race that pits NFL speedsters against eachother for a one million dollar prize. The victim, who is now 33, was 16 at the time of the incident. Sentencing is scheduled for next week.
