Bossier City Senator Ryan Gatti says the bill is named for 4-year-old Katie Grantham who died in the days following a wreck in 2017.

Alexandria Police are investigating the death of 5-year-old girl after she was brought to an emergency room, deceased with her throat cut.  The mother reported that her daughter’s injuries were an accident.  Police have not made any arrests, but they are investigating the death as a possible homicide. The Town Talk newspaper reports the mother’s 4-year-old son died in April choking on a soda cap and the father of the children died in 2016.

18-year-old Barron Semaj Bailey has been arrested in connection with the killing of a eight month pregnancy Minden women, 19-year-old NaToyedre Barrow, who was struck by one of the seven bullets that cut through her residence and killed her as she slept on the couch. Authorities say they’ve seized the assault rifle that they believe fired the bullet in the gang related incident. Bailey is facing one count of second degree murder, and first degree feticide.

Congressmen Garret Graves and Cedric Richmond are co-authoring legislation that would send a greater share of offshore oil revenues to Gulf Coast states. Graves says it could result in 80 to 150-million dollars more for Louisiana to pay for coastal restoration and flood protection. Graves says coastal land loss is an emergency and it’s either pay now or pay more later…

The U-S House passes a bill that would increase the federal minimum wage to 15-dollars an hour by 2025. But LSU Economist Loren Scott says an increase in the minimum wage would result in job losses and it’s unnecessary because wages are already rising in the aftermath of the 2017 tax reform package…

The minimum wage hike proposal is not expected to get a vote in the Senate.

Federal legislation has been filed that would increase the share of offshore energy revenues for Gulf Coast states, which could help fund coastal restoration and flood protection projects. Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says states get a much bigger share of the revenue from onshore drilling and this bill would level the playing field for offshore drilling states…

Graves says the measure would mean an additional 80 to 150-million dollars for the state.

State Education Superintendent John White testified before Congress about the state’s teacher preparation efforts. White says Louisiana is trying to avoid having teachers leave the profession after a year or two, after spending four years in college getting ready for the occupation…

Supporters for a higher living wage are applauding the U-S House for passing a bill to increase the minimum wage to 15-dollars an hour by 2025. Louisiana Budget Project Executive Director Jan Moller says this legislation would have a significant impact on the Bayou State….

But Senate Republicans do not support the measure and a vote on a higher minimum wage in the Senate is unlikely.

The popular A&E reality show Live PD will follow a couple of Lafayette police officers on Friday and Saturday nights over the next few weeks to give viewers a live look at real situations with police officers as they unfold. Lafayette Police Corporal Bridgette Dugas says the department is excited to be in the national spotlight.
