A Baton Rouge Police officer was shot while responding to a domestic call on Geranium Street Monday night. The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) says shots were fired at an apartment complex in the 900 block of Geranium Street near Aster Street several blocks north of Tiger Stadium around 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5 while officers were responding to a domestic call. A BRPD officer was shot in the leg and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
A spokesperson with BRPD says two people are being detained in connection to the case, one of which they believe is the shooter.

Shreveport police are investigating an early Saturday morning drive-by shooting that left a one-month old child dead in the Sunset Acres neighborhood. Police Chief Ben Raymond believes there is someone out there that has details that can lead to an arrest, and says they need to come forward.

Congressman Garret Graves believes background checks and gun bans will not make public mass shootings go away.  Graves made the statement following two mass shootings over the weekend in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas.  Graves says there is a middle ground to combat the violence yet support the Second Amendment.

Graves says many of the gunmen involved in mass shooting have been flagged with data from family and police, and much of that is not making it into background check information.

A report accuses former Baton Rouge cop Blane Salamoni, who fatally shot Alton Sterling in 2016, of preventing EMS from saving a shooting victim In 2014.  The report released by Sterling family attorneys shows Salamoni was reportedly not disciplined for those actions. Family attorney Chris Stewart says it’s an indictment against those who still support the former officer.

Former Baton Rouge cop Blane Salamoni is in hot water again, this time after a 2014 complaint was unearthed that alleges the officer misled EMS at the scene of a shooting. The complaint was filed by an EMS worker who says Salamoni delayed the team, telling them the victim of a shooting had died, while he was reportedly still writhing on the ground.

The St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of their deputies who was killed in a head-on collision in Mississippi. Corporal Jonathan Panks was reportedly driving back from his own bachelor party in Florida. Mississippi Highway Patrol says another driver on I-10 crossed the median and hit Panks head-on.

An attorney for the Sterling family, Chris Stewart, released documents showing an EMS complaint accusing Salamoni of blocking paramedics from saving a 17-year-old’s life in 2014…

New Orleans attorney Randy Boudreaux files a lawsuit against the Louisiana Supreme Court and the Louisiana State Bar Association saying attorneys are unconstitutionally forced to pay bar fees. General Counsel at the Pelican Institute James Baehr says other states do not have a mandatory bar membership if they are not a regulatory part of the legal landscape.

A Ball woman is dead following a UTV crash on Sunday afternoon.  The vehicle, a Honda Pioneer 700, was being driven by a 16-year-old along Cunningham road when the driver lost control and led to the overturning of the vehicle, ejecting both passengers.  The juvenile received minor injuries while the passenger, 40-year-old Amanda Preble, was pronounced dead.  The crash remains under investigation.

Shreveport Police have called a 2 PM press conference to discuss the fatal shooting of a one-month old child early Saturday morning in the Sunset Acres neighborhood. The Caddo Parish Coroner’s office says Queen Dean was struck in the head. Shreveport Police say the infant was hit by a bullet from a drive-by-shooting on the home.

Tomorrow begins the three-day sign-up period for qualifying for the October 12th election. The governor’s race gets top billing, while Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is facing a well-funded challenger by the name of Tim Temple. Political analyst Clancy Dubos says the other statewide elected officials are not facing strong challengers, but anything could happen before the sign-up period ends on Thursday at 4:30 PM…
