Parents have a new app to keep their kids safe, Safe Virtual Neighborhoods, which lets them know when a sex offender tries to contact their children.
St. Charles Sheriff Greg Champagne says all parents need to do is download the app and plug-in their children’s information and they’ll be forwarded any alerts.

The app was developed by Covington based Offenderwatch.
Champagne says you’ll want a full list of your child’s contact numbers and social media accounts to have proper coverage for the service.

Champagne says all of this is made possible by Offenderwatch’s extensive collection of information. Offenderwatch has emails, cell numbers, and social media accounts for hundreds of thousands of offenders.

Governor Edwards and Eddie Rispone will share the stage tonight for the first and only gubernatorial run-off debate.

A recent JMC Analytics poll shows Edwards at 48 percent and Rispone at 46 percent.
Rispone has been criticized for not providing details about the kinds of policies his potential administration would pursue, but Cross says tonight could give voters a better idea.

Edwards has begun a line of attack targeting Rispone over the Baton Rouge businessman’s lack of specifics on policy.
Cross says Edwards has already proved he can secure a near majority of the vote, so tonight there’s more pressure on Rispone to perform.

New research indicates teen suicide rates are up 87 percent over the last decade, with LGBTQ teens being the most at risk for suicide attempts. Researcher at Trust for America’s Health Rhea Farberman says the sudden spike warrants attention to the issue.

Farberman says the data finds 48 percent of gay, lesbian, and bisexual adolescents report considering or attempting suicide.

The research suggests the rise is due to the stressers and pressures in a teen’s life. LGBTQ teens often experience discrimination, they experience bullying, and in some cases, violence and family rejection. Farberman says there is a need for programs and policy aimed at enabling teens with coping and emotional skills.

Louisiana is in for a stormy day today. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s just the beginning of a bumpy ride of different weather conditions the state can expect over the next few days.

Center Jaxson Hayes saw his first minutes in Monday’s loss. He had a shaky defensive performance but put up 19 points in just 24 minutes. Gentry says it’s a promising first game, but he’s not ready to start any time soon.
