The video appears to show Lafayette police shouting for Pellerin to stop walking before they tazed him to no effect. As he began to enter a convenience store, Lafayette Police officers fired their guns. Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory released a statement that supports how the officers handled the situation. State Police continues to investigate.

Tropical Storm Marco is fizzling out, as its maximum sustained winds are at 50 miles per hour. But Tropical Storm Laura is looming and it could be a Category Two hurricane when it makes landfall Wednesday night or Thursday morning in southwest Louisiana.

There have been a lot of changes with forecasts for Tropical Storm and Marco. State Climatologist Barry Keim says the weather community has had a challenge in developing forecasts for these storms as well as figuring out how they might influence each other…

The storm is heading west at 18 miles per hour and it will move over Haiti, Dominican Republic and Cuba, before moving into the Gulf of Mexico and developing into a Category one hurricane. A strong Category one storm could make landfall along Louisiana’s coast Wednesday night.

There’s also Tropical storm Marco which is expected to become a hurricane later today over the northwest Caribbean Sea. Tim Destri, with the National Weather Service in Slidell, says Marco will head towards Louisiana, before turning west Monday and weakening to a tropical storm….

State Police announce a black man shot by police in Lafayette last night has died from his injuries. State Police Trooper Derek Senegal says Lafayette police officers responded to a disturbance involving a person armed with a knife at a gas station and the subject then walked to another gas station with officers right behind him…

The man shot has been identified as 31-year-old Trayford Pellerin and he died at a local hospital. Senegal says officers deployed Tasers as they pursued Pellerin, but they were ineffective. A bystander caught the episode on video, which has since gone viral, and you can hear officers fire multiple shots.

ULM football is pausing its preseason camp, because COVID testing produced nine positive cases. The school is hoping they can resume practice early next week. The Warhawks first game is September fifth at Troy.

Stephanie Payne was stopped at a Baton Rouge intersection in July of 2019 when Jordan slammed his vehicle into hers at over 90 miles per hour.

We are waiting on State Police to report more information on last night’s officer-involved shooting in Lafayette. There’s video on social media that looks like officers firing several shots at a black man holding a knife outside of a gas station. No word on the identity of the man or his injuries.

Governor Edwards has declared a state of emergency as Louisiana prepares for the potential impact of two named storms.

A second federal judge has ruled in favor of Governor Edwards executive order that restricts bars to only take-out and delivery service. Bar owners claim they were shut down without constitutional due process. But Judge Robert Summerhays in Lafayette ruled last night there is a real and substantial relation between the restrictions on bars and the state’s effort to control the spread of COVID-19. A federal judge in New Orleans also ruled in favor of Governor Edwards.

The National Hurricane Center says Laura is expected to make landfall as a hurricane somewhere along Lousiana’s coast on Wednesday. While Tropical Storm Marco appears more of a threat to Texas and it might not reach hurricane status.

State Police is investigating an officer involed shooting last night in north Lafayette at a gas station. Officers responded to a disturbance at a gas station and the subject who was shot ended up walking to another gas station, where he was a shot. There’s no word on his condition or whether he had a weapon.

Tropical Storm Laura is currently projected to make landfall as a Cat One hurricane Wednesday afternoon in southeast Louisiana. It’s one of two storms that may be impacting Louisiana next week that the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is bracing for.  GOHSEP spokesperson Mike Steele says the storms are a reminder that it is important for residents to develop a plan of action and shore up their hurricane supply kits with enough supplies to sustain every member of the family for at least three days.

An Ochsner anti-body survey of the Baton Rouge region uncovers some unsettling data about COVID-19. Ochsner Research Scientist Dr. Amy Feehan says those who reported the loss of smell and taste were eight and a half times more likely to test positive for COVID-19, and it’s no simple allergy season kind of sensory loss…

There’s the potential for two hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico next week. The latest advisory shifts both storms westward. State Climatologist Barry Keim says one of the storms is expected to enter the Gulf on Sunday after moving over the Yucatan Penisula. Keim says southwest Louisiana needs to be on guard and so does southeast Louisiana as that part of the state is in the cone of uncertainty for Tropical Storm Laura which will most likely pass south Florida on Monday.
