With State Representative Julie Emerson now the fifth Republican to mount a primary challenge against Senator Bill Cassidy, the Republican says he’s not worried about his political future. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux is hospitalized with pneumonia.  His office made the announcement yesterday saying the mayor is receiving treatment as a precautionary measure. We’re told Arceneaux is alert, in good spirits, and resting comfortably.

Louisiana’s special legislative session could end today as the House is poised to approve legislation today that that would move next year’s federal primary election from April to May.  Port Allen Senator Caleb Kleinpeter authored the bill , as lawmakers will need to act should the Supreme Court rule Louisiana’s current congressional map, unconstitutional.

The Carencro representative says while she views herself as a staunch conservative, she also sees herself as a consensus-builder.

The special session could end today as the House is poised to approve legislation that would move next year’s federal primary election from April to May. Democrats do not have the votes to stop the change, but they’ve been vocal in their opposition. Baton Rouge Representative Denise Marcelle believes Republicans want to push the dates back so they can re-draw a new Congressional map with only one Black majority district instead of two, after the Supreme Court rules the current map is unconstitutional.

LSU football fans, get used to the name Frank Wilson. He’s going to be the team’s head coach for the remainder of the season. He was appointed interim head coach Sunday after the school fired Brian Kelly after almost four seasons at the helm. During his first news conference following his appointment, Wilson said he’s excited for the challenge.

Authorities in Jasper County, Mississippi now say it’s three Rhesus monkeys that are unaccounted for after that crash on I-59 near Heidleberg yesterday.  This after Tulane officials access the truck and do an updated count. Sheriff’s officials are warning the animals are dangerous to humans and should not be approached.

Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall addressed the coaching carousel when he met with the media on Tuesday. Sumrall is expected to be one of the top candidates for the LSU head coaching position, but he says he’s committed to being with the Green Wave.

Oh Shucks! The Saints announced that the team will be starting rookie quarterback Tyler Shough for Sunday’s game in Los Angeles against the Rams. The second-round pick took Spencer Rattler’s place in the third quarter of the 23-3 loss to Tampa Bay, where he passed for 128 yards and an interception. Shough says he has to do a better job moving forward.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that New Orleans is expected to trade at least one of their wide receivers at the deadline, which is on November 4^th.

LSU senior cornerback Mansoor Delane has been named as a Semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is awarded to the best defensive back in the country. Delane has 33 tackles, 7 pass breakups and an interception thus far.

ULM is now 3-and-5 after a 49-21 loss to Southern Mississippi on Saturday. Head coach Bryant Vincent still has full faith in the job that he and his players are working towards with building the program.

The Warhawks return to Monroe to host Old Dominion this Saturday afternoon at 2:30.

The Pelicans are still winless through the first three games of the season after being blown out by the Celtics by a score of 122-90. Jordan Poole led scoring for New Orleans with 22 points. Zion Williamson missed the game with a left foot bone contusion. The Pelicans schedule doesn’t get any easier down the road as their next three games are against the Nuggets, Clippers and Thunder.

Grymes says temperatures will drop significantly behind this cold front, so you will want to break out that jacket as you make your way to school or work in the morning.

Grymes says the state could also be in for a little precipitation.

Retired Army Lieutenant General Russel Honore, who led the response in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, says the top priority is to help the people who couldn’t evacuate from the island.

Honore says the United Nations will be coordinating the relief effort. He says some private organizations are ready to help, including one from Louisiana.

To put Melissa’s strength in perspective, when Hurricane Katrina made landfall in Louisiana 20 years ago, its winds were 125 miles an hour, making it a Category Three storm. As such, by the time Melissa passes, the damage will be mind-boggling. Honore says it could take many years for Jamaica to recover.
