Today the House Ways and Means Committee will discuss a proposed constitutional amendment that would allow the state to implement a centralized system for collecting local sales and use taxes. The Tax Foundation says the proposal is sound tax policy. Manish Batt (Bot) is the Vice President of State Tax Policy at the Tax Foundation…

Bhatt says Louisiana remains a national outlier in lacking central collection and administration of its sales taxes. But the Police Jury Association of Louisiana opposes the legislation as they are concerned this legislation will result in a drop in local sales tax revenue. But Bhatt says a centralized sales tax system would still be the best method for everyone

A state lawmaker is looking to boost teacher pay to align with the regional average. Monroe Representative Michael Echols’ Teacher Pay Modernization Act would gradually increase teacher pay throughout the state until it reaches the Southern regional average.

A heartbreaking end to the season last night for the LSU women’s basketball team as Duke hit a shot at the buzzer to beat the Lady Tigers 87 to 85 in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Women’s basketball tournament. LSU fell behind by as many as 11 points in the second quarter and allowed Duke to get 20 offensive rebounds, resulting in 19 second-chance points. Coach Kim Mulkey…

LSU finishes 29-6 and went 1-and-6 in games decided by seven points or less.

Lots of talk on Social media during last night’s game saying last night would be Coach Mulkey’s last game.  After the game, she said emphatically, she is NOT retiring.

He’s back!  Former LSU Men’s basketball coach Will Wade will be former no more.  And details are being released about his new contract…a seven-year deal worth 30 million dollars. Wade’s introductory press conference is set for Monday at noon at the P-Mac.

We are 50 days away from the May 16th party primary election. The U-S Senate Republican Primary is getting the most attention, but the 5th District Congressional Republican primary is also very competitive. Radio talk show host Moon Griffon says it’s hard to judge who is the front-runner to replace Julia Letlow…

The premium and standard plans each increase by two dollars a month to $26.99 and $19.99 respectively, while the ad-supported plan goes up a dollar to $8.99. Haggai Davis, the host of the TechGumbo radio show and podcast, says the biggest reason is that Netflix is now starting to show live sports.

A heartbreaking loss for the LSU Lady basketball tigers as they lost at the buzzer to Duke, by a score of 87 to 85, ending their season and a run for another national championship. MiLaysia Fulwiley had a career-high 28 points in the effort.

LSU Lady Tigers failed to reach the Elite for the first time since Kim Mulkey’s first season at LSU.  That as the purple and gold lost at the buzzer after a big comeback run in the Sweet 16.  This was a team that many thought could get back to the Final Four. Final score 87 to 85.  LSU finishes 29-6.

LSU baseball also lost last night, falling to Kentucky seven to four. Casan Evans suffered the loss as he walked six hitters in six innings and gave up four runs. The Tigers are 2-and-5 in the SEC and will look to even up the series at 2 PM.

The increased prices are in effect immediately for new subscribers, and they will roll out over time for existing subscribers.

Entergy Louisiana and Meta announce a new agreement that they say will save customers two-billion dollars over the next 20 years. Under the agreement, Meta is making a series of contributions aimed at lowering energy costs to customers near its data centers. Those savings are in addition to the previously announced savings of 650-million dollars.

A trio of bills aiming to crack down on misrepresenting imported shrimp advance in the legislature. One would require restaurants and other retailers to retain all records of seafood purchases for at least six months, one would empower the agriculture commissioner to seize and destroy imported seafood found to be in violation of state laws, and one would impose fines of up to 15-thousand dollars for mislabeled seafood.

The US House has rejected the Senate’s DHS funding bill, extending the shutdown that’s caused TSA worker shortages at airports. House Speaker Mike Johnson from Bossier Parish called the Senate’s spending package a “joke” and will ask the House to approve a bill to fund DHS through May 22nd.

State lawmakers are looking to create the Office of Health and Nutrition within the Louisiana Department of Health.  Covington Senator Patrick McMath says the new office would not increase costs for state government, but if it’s successful in helping people eat better and exercise more, it can help reduce the rate of chronic disease…

If you are Netflix subscriber, get ready to pay a little bit more. The standard plan is increasing by two-dollars to $19.99 a month and the premium plan is also going up two bucks, to $26.99 a month. Haggai Davis, host of the TechGumbo radio show, says even though this is the second price increase in less than two years, Netflix does not expect to lose too many subscribers.
