The Louisiana Workforce Commission says its website is down and the state agency hopes the site will be operational by noon tomorrow. L-W-C Secretary Ava Dejoe says the site had to be taken down so that the I-T staff can program the site for new federal stimulus payments as part of the President’s American Rescue Plan.

In a letter to staff, Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry said anyone engaging in sexual harassment would lose their job. This comes after one of his top aides, Pat Magee, resigned following complaints of sexual harassment. Landry is also defending the lawsuit he filed against an Advocate reporter who sought more information about the complaints filed against Magee…

Attorney General Jeff Landry defends his office’s handling of sexual harassment complaints against former top aide Pat Magee. Magee, who had previously been suspended for inappropriate conduct, resigned last week after receiving another complaint. Landry wrote a letter to his staff saying that behavior won’t be tolerated.

Louisiana will receive $2.6 billion for schools from the latest COVID relief bill.  A large portion of the funding is to be dedicated to recovery learning so students can stay on grade level. State Education Superintendent Cade Brumley is asking school systems to reimagine summer school as more of a summer camp experience.

One day after Drew Brees announced his retirement, the Saints re-signed quarterback Jameis Winston, who a lot of people believe will be the starter next season.  Winston’s new contract is for one year and he can earn up to 12-million dollars.  Saints Analyst Mike Detillier says this deal is good for both parties.

The state Department of Corrections has asked the Edwards administration for a 21-million dollar increase in state funding to help pay for a 10-percent increase in pay for entry-level correctional officers. D-O-C says they have over 400 unfilled guard positions, a vacancy rate of more than 36-percent. The budget will be considered in the upcoming regular session.

Visitation guidelines have been relaxed allowing for indoor visitation at nursing homes and adult residential care facilities. The Fair has received approval to open from April 29th to May 9th and they will also hold the fair in the fall as they normally do. Fair president Chris Giordano says the fair in the spring will be different than in the past, with additional space for distancing, sanitizing stations, and face coverings will be required but can be removed in two designated areas.

In addition to reducing human trafficking, Landry says decriminalizing prostitution would also lead to safer sex practices among sex workers and their customers.

Landry says when you remove the crime of prostitution it becomes much more obvious who is in the profession by choice versus against their will and if it is consensual between adults why is the government involved?

For many sex workers, Landry says it is a matter of economics and when people are hurting financially, they often make decisions that they wouldn’t otherwise. In Louisiana, white women make an average of 67-cents on the dollar compared to men and for Black women, it’s even less.

LSU kicks off Spring Football today and one position battle that fans will be keeping an eye on is the quarterback position.  Myles Brennan. Max Johnson and TJ Finley started at quarterback and won football games last season. Tiger Rag Assistant Editor William Weathers says it will come down to who can run the new system the best.
