A New Orleans city councilman with a history of drunk driving was arrested for the second time early Monday morning; again for DUI. Jared Brossett was arrested last year for drinking behind the wheel when he crashed his city-issued car into another vehicle. Details of this most-recent arrest have not been released.

Now that the coaching future of Ed Orgeron has been decided, LSU begins the search for a new football coach. Tiger Rag Editor Ron Higgins says Athletic Director Scott Woodward will have a lot of candidates to consider…:

Back for the first time in over 14 years, mounted sheriff’s deputies have returned to Beauregard Parish in southwest Louisiana. Beauregard Sheriff Mark Herford says the seven-man patrol team successfully covered the parish fair last weekend, after several months of equestrian training…:

Lafayette Police warn of a phone scam making the rounds. Callers will SAY they are with the local police or sheriff’s office; claiming to have a warrant for your arrest. But, they will take money to resolve the matter. The first red flag is them asking for money. The second is them asking for non-traceable forms of money, like store gift cards. Just hang up.

AARP has a new website tool up and running that is there to assist veterans access health care in the state.  Troy Broussard with AARP-Louisiana says of the more than 300 thousand vets in the state only a fraction have used their VA health care benefits. He says the VetsHealthNavigator contains a significant amount of detailed information about benefits available to nearly 60 percent of all veterans…:

Police in Sulphur are investigating a crash that caused the death of a 7-year-old girl over the weekend. The accident happened on U.S. 90 on Saturday. Police say the child was not properly restrained in the back seat. Three others in the car were treated for minor injuries.

New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting this morning ON Interstate-10 near the Superdome that left two people – a man and a woman – seriously hurt. So far no motive, nor suspects in the crime.

An early Sunday morning shooting on the Grambling University campus leaves one person dead and seven injured. This is the second d incident of gunplay at Grambling in just a matter of days. University President Rick Gallot says Sunday Homecoming events were cancelled and counseling is being offered for those that feel the need. Gallot says – like other communities – Grambling isn’t immune to violence…:

It’s been 14 years since Beauregard Parish had officers on horseback.

A Rapides Parish woman is sentenced to 50 years in prison for the November 2018 death of her invalid daughter, due to severe and intentional neglect. 50-year-old Karen Johnson Harrison pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter for the death 25-year-old Cyra Harrison, who had cerebral palsy. The judge in the case says, in this case, it will be a life sentence.

A New Orleans man faces criminal charges after video shot by a neighbor emerged showing the man tying up his dog, duct taping its muzzle and eyes, then tasing it several times. Karl Jackson was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

Authorities say the deceased victims of two fatal shootings on the campus of Grambling University that occurred Sunday and Wednesday during Homecoming week were not students. Louisiana State Police has issued an arrest warrant for 18-year-old Jatavious “Rabbit” Carroll of Delhi in connection with the Wednesday shooting and Trooper Michael Reichardt says they continue to investigate Sunday’s incident.

Drug overdose deaths in Louisiana are way up since the Covid-19 pandemic invaded the state.  Details from reporter Dave Brannen.

A Sunday morning crash in Union Parish claims the life of a Spearsville woman. State Police says 74-year-old Rosemary Smith was killed when her car collided with a minivan at the intersection of LA Highway 550 and Highway 15. The vehicle she was driving caught fire and a passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital along with two passengers in the minivan. The crash remains under investigation.

Eye-opening statistics from the CDC show that drug overdose deaths in Louisiana shot up by 56-percent between March 2020 and March of this year. Dr. James Patterson, Clinical Director of the Louisiana Addiction Research Center at LSU-Shreveport says the impact of social isolation and overdose deaths are reflected in part in the way a large segment of grade school children in Caddo Parish are handling the pandemic.

There’s been another fatal shooting on Grambling State’s campus. The latest one happened Sunday morning. State Police say one person was killed and seven wounded. There was another fatal shooting on campus last Wednesday and authorities have yet to make an arrest in either case. Classes are canceled for today and tomorrow on Grambling’s campus.

Classes at Grambling State are canceled today and tomorrow as a result of another fatal shooting on campus. Officials say one person was killed and seven others injured early Sunday morning in the second deadly shooting on Grambling’s campus within a four-day period. The person who was fatally shot Sunday was not a student and authorities have yet to make an arrest in either shooting.
