A groundbreaking ceremony is taking place this morning in Calcasieu Parish for a 17-point-five billion dollar LNG project that will be operated by Woodside Energy, which is based in Australia. It means thousands of jobs for the area and Calcasieu Parish President Judd Barres says they are ready to supply the workforce…

About 113-thousand Louisiana Blue policyholders will receive a rebate check from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. Spokesperson Mike Bertaut says those who are eligible for a rebate are those who buy their policies directly from Louisiana Blue and not through an employer. He says that amounts to more than 113-thousand policyholders.

Eligible policyholders should be receiving their explanation letters soon, and their rebates should arrive sometime in the next few weeks.

State and local officials will break ground this morning on a 17-point-5-billion-dollar LNG export facility in Calcasieu Parish. Louisiana already has four operational LNG export terminals. Calcasieu Parish President Judd Barres says southwest Louisiana is the place for LNG because of all of the natural gas pipelines plus location…

Governor Landry says this is the largest single foreign direct investment in Louisiana history. Woodside Energy Group will operate the facility and they are based in Australia.

 

Blue Cross and Bule Shield of Louisiana announces 113-thousand policyholders who were covered last year by Louisiana Blue or HMO Louisiana will receive rebate checks. Mike Bertaut says the rebate checks are the results of Louisiana Blue’s efforts to hold down healthcare costs…

The State Fire Marshal’s office continues to investigate an early morning fire at Fat Belly’s Diner in Opelousas that killed three people. The restaurant owner, his girlfriend and her nine-year-old daughter all died in the blaze on Saturday. Investigators do not know the cause, but the building did not have working smoke alarms.

It’s a historic day for southwest Louisiana as state and local officials break ground on a 17.5 billion dollar LNG project that will be built and operated by Woodside Energy Group. The liquified natural gas production and export facility in Calcasieu is called Louisiana L-N-G. Calcasieu Parish Police Jury President Judd Bares says Louisiana LNG is expected to generate significant economic growth…

The LNG facility is expected to become operational in 2029 and employ thousands.

Bad news for Joe Burrow. The Bengals quarterback went down with a toe injury in the first half. It’s a turf toe and it’s been reported he could miss up to three months. Cincinnati still won yesterday, beating Jacksonville 31-27.

Is DBU back? LSU intercepted five passes in Saturday’s 20-10 win over Florida. Sophomore safety Dashawn Spears had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Spears only saw 13 snaps before Saturday’s game, but Coach Brian Kelly says the former Denham Springs star never stopped preparing…

Louisiana Tech’s offense finally put up some points on Saturday in a 49-14 win over New Mexico State in the Conference USA opener. The Washington Post reports the Department of Defense has drafted plans to deploy one-thousand troops to urban areas of multiple cities in Louisiana to help local law enforcement fight crime. The Post says the plan would be put in place if Governor Landry requests the troops. The Landry’s office says it will not comment on leaked or pre-decisional documents.

Tens of thousands of Louisiana Blue policyholders will soon be getting rebate checks in the mail. Mike Bertaut (BURR-tow), the senior healthcare economist with Louisiana Blue, says Louisiana Blue has been very proactive in holding the line on healthcare costs.

And since Louisiana Blue was successful in that regard, Bertaut says Louisiana Blue is required to rebate money back to eligible policyholders.

Less than two days after the assassination of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk, someone vandalized a sidewalk outside the headquarters of the Louisiana Democratic Party headquarters, spray painting the word “murderers” in red.  Executive Director and East Baton Rouge School Board member Dadrius Lanus says it happened Thursday night.  He posted a photo on social media, calling the incident fear-mongering at its best.

Three people have been arrested for allegedly stealing a solid silver statue of former President Abraham Lincoln from Houmas House in Ascension Parish. Houmas House owner Kevin Kelly says he believes more people were likely involved…

The Saints defense will have to contain one of the most dangerous offensive players in the league tomorrow in 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey. Linebacker Demario Davis says that McCaffrey’s versatility makes it difficult for defenses to stop him.

A little good news for Florida Gators fans as they’ll get to enjoy the number one ranked tailgating destination in the SEC today.  That’s according to the website RV Trader.  Scott Smith, a tailgating expert with RV Trader, says many factors landed LSU at the top, including Louisiana’s world-famous cuisine.

With tonight’s match up on deck, the LSU rush attack comes in at 85th in the country, averaging just 118 yards on the ground a game. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains found Friday in a wooded area off River Road.  Deputies say the identity of the individual and the manner of death remain unknown at this time.

The acting police chief in Cheneyville, a town of less than 500 in Rapides Parish, finds himself on the other side of the law. State Police Master Trooper Casey Wallace says 37-year-old Charles Isaac is charged with molestation of a juvenile and sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.

Three people are arrested for allegedly stealing a 64-pound, solid silver statue of Abraham Lincoln from the Houmas House Estate and Gardens in Ascension Parish. Houmas House owner Kevin Kelly says the statue was cut up in several pieces, and some parts were sold at a pawn shop and a gold and silver shop in Metairie.

UL-Lafayette travels to Columbia, Missouri to face the number twenty-five Missouri Tigers on Saturday at noon central time.

Tulane will host Duke on Saturday at 7 p.m. Emotions are going to run high in Yulman Stadium as starting Blue Devil quarterback Darian Mensah returns to New Orleans for the first time since transferring from the Green Wave in the offseason.

Louisiana Tech opens up conference play in Ruston on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. where the Bulldogs will face New Mexico State. Head coach Sonny Cumbie has yet to name a starting quarterback.

After defeating Murray State in Georgia last week, Southeastern is back home Saturday to host the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at 6 p.m.

The Grambling State Tigers host the Kentucky State Thorobreds Saturday at 6 p.m.

McNeese State will host Weber State at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
