New Orleans Police is investigating the fatal shooting of a two-year-old boy in the Hollygrove neighborhood. The toddler was pronounced dead at children’s hospital. NOLA-dot-com reports the shooting occurred as a result of a domestic dispute. Charges are expected.

According to Tangipahoa Parish jail records, nursing home operator Bob Dean bonded out of jail after he turned himself in yesterday. Dean faces eight felony counts of cruelty to people with infirmities, five felony counts of Medicaid fraud and two felony counts of obstruction of justice for moving 800 nursing home residents to an ill equipped warehouse in Independence prior to Hurricane Ida’s landfall.

In an effort to reduce the burden of high gas prices on Americans, President Biden is asking Congress for a temporary gas holiday, by suspending the federal gas and diesel taxes for three months. Louisiana Congressman and Democrat Troy Carter says he supports the President’s proposal, but also believes the administration should look at long-term solutions to lower prices.

That’s Louisiana Farm Bureau spokesperson Avery Davidson who says discussing what should be in the 2023 Farm Bill is one of the key items on their agenda.

Attorney General Jeff Landry’s office says they have arrested the owner of seven Louisiana nursing homes, who evacuated hundreds of residents to a Tangipahoa Parish warehouse for Hurricane Ida. Over a dozen people died due to the unfit conditions there. Bob Dean Jr. is not charged with 8 felony counts of cruelty to the infirm, 5 counts of Medicaid fraud and 2 counts of obstruction of justice. Additional charges may be coming.

Governor Edwards has signed a bill inspired by that nursing home tragedy. It requires all nursing homes to submit their disaster preparedness plans with the state Department of Health for approval every year. Bill author Representative Rick Edmonds, of Baton Rouge…:

Governor Edwards has signed into law the Crown Act; a measure to prohibit discrimination based upon the way a person wears their hair. New Orleans Representative Candace Newell says too many people are passed over or even fired for their cultural hairstyles, and this law will help with that.

Baltimore Ravens linebacker and Zachery native 26-year old Jaylon Ferguson was found dead at his home last night. Ferguson’s West Feliciana high school coach Robb Odom says in a short time Ferguson left a strong legacy.

Ferguson is survived by his fiancé and three children. A cause of death has not been listed and an autopsy is pending.

The city of Alexandria warns residents not to fall for a scam in which a caller says tells you your power is about to be disconnected unless you submit immediate payment over the phone. They may ask for a credit or ATM card number. Just hang up and report it to the police.

State Police Master Trooper Casey Wallace says 19 different law enforcement agencies in the central part of the state put their heads together and were able to build a plan to apprehend as many violent offenders as possible…:

An Airman at Barksdale air Force base has been arrested for allegedly distributing child pornography. Bossier Sheriff’s deputies says images obtained while investigating 23-year-old Matthew Daigle were disturbing. All his digital devices have been seized for the ongoing investigation.

Two Evangeline Parish deputies are under arrest for allegedly bringing drugs and other contraband items into the parish jail. They’re charged with Malfeasance and abuse of Office.

Friends and fans are still reacting to the sudden death of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Jaylon Ferguson at the age of 26. The St. Francisville native starred at West Feliciana high school. His coach there, Robb Odom, says Ferguson was one of the building blocks of the program as it climbed from contending during his high school career to winning the 3A state title in 2017. Ferguson set the tone in the locker room and on the field, serving as a leader and role model for his teammates.

A 15-year-old male was shot and killed in Lafayette last night. At around 10:40 pm, Lafayette Police responded to a call regarding aggravated battery by shooting. When officers arrived they found the victim critically injured. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital before he was pronounced deceased. Health officials say Louisiana is experiencing its sixth surge of COVID. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says this surge differs from previous ones because we aren’t seeing an increase in hospitalizations and deaths.

Kanter says of those hospitalized with COVID, 63 percent are not fully vaccinated, and 87 percent have not been vaccinated nor boosted.

New Orleans Representative Candace Newell’s CROWN Act is officially law. The law prohibits intentional discrimination based on hairstyles. Research shows 80 percent of Black women have endured some type of discrimination based on their hair in the workplace. Newell says the law sends a strong message.

Law enforcement officials say we are in the midst of the 100 Deadliest Days of summer. Trooper Christian Reed says from Memorial Day to Labor Day there’s a 15 percent increase in traffic fatalities among drivers ages 16 to 19. Reed says no law enforcement officer ever wants to tell a parent about the death of their child.
