The incumbent Mayor of Melville – seeking re-election – died yesterday in a car crash just hours after the polls opened. Deputies in St. Landry Parish say 84-year-old Mayor Velma Hendrix was a passenger in a vehicle that was broadsided by a pickup at an intersection on Highway 190. Another period of qualifying for the mayoral election opens tomorrow until Monday for an election on December 10^th.

And while it remains to be seen if Republicans will gain control of the Senate, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy was asked his thoughts on the tight races after he declared victory last night.

Kennedy recalled polls that indicated South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell would lose their races, but they won.

Five of the eight constitutional amendments on Tuesday’s ballot failed. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says voters are not interested in making changes to the current constitution….

Three more constitutional amendments will be on the December 10^th ballot.

Future control of the U.S. Senate is yet to be determined, as three races are still too close to call or are headed to a run-off. Brooke Thorington has more from Republican Senator John Kennedy…:

Former Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy will be the city’s mayor again. Roy challenged incumbent Mayor Jeff Hall’s bid for another term, and won outright last night, with 51-percent of the vote.

Right on the heels of his decisive re-election last night, District 1 congressman Steve Scalise has begun his bid to be named the U.S. House Majority Leader in the next Congress.

Five of the eight constitutional amendments on Tuesday’s ballot failed. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says voters are getting weary and mistrustful of amendments. He says voters rejected amendments in 2020 and again in 2021. He says lawmakers are being sent a message here…:

Two amendments approved dealt with homestead exemptions and property taxes for persons with disabilities.

No matter where you are in Louisiana, I can safely say your congressman (or woman) has been re-elected to another two year term. Five of our six U.S. House members won Tuesday by wide and comfortable margins. The sixth is District 4 Congressman Mike Johnson, who was re-elected by default many weeks ago, when no one qualified to run against him.

Louisiana’s U.S.House members were all re-elected last night winning by big margins. The lone Democrat of the state’s Congressional delegation, Congressman Troy Carter of New Orleans, says he’s not daunted by going into a GOP-led House, and he’ll keep doing what he’s always done…:

Carter represent District 2, the state’s majority-minority district.

And while it remains to be seen if Republicans will gain control of the Senate, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy says he has hopes for getting inflation under control with real action. He says that’s what worries Louisianans. That and crime, what their children are being taught in school, and whether are they going to have to eventually leave the state for a better job…:

A big upset in the Bogalusa Mayoral race Tuesday; incumbent Mayor Wendy Pirette – seen as the strong front-runner – was unseated by 23-year-old Tyrin Truong, who took 56-percent of the vote. Last night the new mayor-elect said he was at a loss for words. Pirette – who finished third of three candidates – has been Mayor of Bogalusa since 2014.

Shreveport mayor Adrian Perkins has been ousted after just one term. Perkins did not make the runoff election. LSU-Shreveport political science professor Jeff Sadow says Perkins committed misstep after misstep…:

Republican Tom Arceneaux and Democrat state Senator Greg Tarver will face each other in the December 10^th runoff.

A mayor in south Louisiana up for re-election was killed in a crash on Election Day. State Police says 84-year-old Velma Hendrix, the mayor of Melville, was a passenger in an SUV involved in a two-vehicle wreck near Port Barre. L-S-P says Hendrix was not restrained. She was first elected as mayor in 2018.

It remains to be seen which party will be in control of the U-S Senate, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy is hopeful Republicans gain control in the mid-term elections and Americans who are reeling from inflation will bring about a Red Wave.

Based on election results around the country, there’s a good chance Republicans will gain control of the House.

No major surprises on election night in Louisiana as U-S Senator John Kennedy won re-election to a second term without the need for a run-off. Twelve people signed up to challenge Kennedy, but he still received over 60-percent of the vote. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says his Democratic challengers lacked funding…:

Democrat and Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers finished second in the race, receiving about 18-percent of the vote and Democrat Luke Mixon got 13-percent.

Louisiana’s U-S House members were all re-elected last night winning by big margins. The lone Democrat of the state’s Congressional delegation, Congressman Troy Carter of New Orleans, says both parties should focus on repairing the pandemic’s damage to the economy…

The control of the U-S Senate and House in the next Congress is unknown as several midterm races remain too close to call. Attorney Morris Bart, who represents many of the families of the 800 nursing home patients, sent to an ill-equipped warehouse in Tangipahoa Parish before Hurricane Ida is displeased with the 12-point-five million dollar settlement approved by a Jefferson Parish judge. It was Bob Dean’s decision to evacuate him there and his attorneys say he’s broke and suffers from dementia. Bart says the settlement means only about 10-thousand dollars for each family while there’s evidence Dean has 15 to 20-million dollars in seizeable assets…

As expected, Republican U-S Senator John Kennedy won a second term in office, receiving over 62-percent of the vote. Kennedy says the margin of victory takes his breath away…

Finishing second in the race, was Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers at 18-percent. Chambers told supporters he is not running for governor next year.

He lost that race and last night he failed to make the run-off. Republican Tom Arceneaux and Democratic Senator Greg Tarver will face-off in the December run-off.

There were eight constitutional amendments on last night’s ballot and five of them failed, including Amendment Seven, which contained the language involuntary servitude and slavery. The author of the amendment, Baton Rouge Representative Edmond Jordan, urged voters to reject it, because he wanted to bring back a rewritten version of the amendment next year.
