A recall effort is underway to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell from office, and while often a recall effort can serve as a wake-up call to a public official, triggering a change in policy or behavior. However, UNO political science professor Ed Chernevak doesn’t feel that would happen in this case.

Petitioners have six months to collect the 53-thousand signatures needed to put a recall on a New Orleans ballot.

As gas prices slowly lower, Nick Chabarria (Cha-berry) with Triple-A says one reason is due to a decrease in demand and the end of the summer vacation season now that kids are back in school. He says the higher prices also brought on driver fatigue.

According to a report by the Advocate, Louisiana homeowners will see a 122-percent increase in their flood insurance premiums on average that will be phased in over multiple years. Premium increases are limited to 18 percent per year, while new policies will be priced at the new rates right away.

Monroe police officers were called out to Carroll High and the middle school yesterday morning because two 14 years old students had handguns in their possession. Sargent Mike Fendall says school resource officers reacted quickly to ensure everyone was safe.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is the subject of a recall petition; filed last week with the Secretary of State’s office. To get a recall on a ballot, organizers will need to collect legitimate signatures from 20-percent of Orleans Parish registered voters within six months; about 53-thousand people. Organizers say they collected three-thousand signatures in the first three days, including 21-hundred signatures last night at an event in Lakeview.

Monroe police arrested two 14-year-old students yesterday who brought guns to school. One incident occurred at Carroll High School and the other at Carroll Junior High. No one was harmed and motives are not publicly known. Monroe Police Sergeant Mike Fendall says they are looking to see how the teens got the guns…

Bossier City Police Union President Sergeant B-J Sanford was arrested by the FBI and he was arraigned in federal court on one count of obtaining prescription drugs fraudulently. Bossier City says Sanford’s arrest is related to his presidency of the police union and he’s been placed on administrative leave.

FBI agents raided Bossier City police headquarters Sunday and arrested the head of the Bossier City police union. Harold “BJ” Sanford faces one count of obtaining prescription drugs fraudulently. A hearing is scheduled for Thursdays to determine if Sanford will be held pending his trial or if bail will be offered.

Four people drowned in Beauregard Parish over the weekend. Beauregard Parish Sheriff Mark Herford says a group was swimming and the recent rains brought on a strong current in the Sabine River. Herford says it’s the worst case of multiple drownings he’s worked in more than three-decades…:

People in Beauregard Parish are still stunned after four people – three adults and a child – drowned while swimming in the Sabine River Friday. Beauregard Sheriff Mark Herford says recent rains had made the current too swift to be safe. He says a 4-year-old boy was in distress, and three men went in to try to save him, but also drowned…:

All four victims’ bodies have been recovered.

August 29^th brings some bad memories for Louisiana. It’s the day that Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005…Hurricane Isaac in 2012 and Hurricane Ida in 2021. Among those hit hardest by Ida was St. John parish, where Parish President Jacklyn Hotard says recovery has been slow, due to supply chain problems and insurance red tape…:

A student at Sam Houston High School in Lake Charles is under arrest, for allegedly making threats on social media to shoot classmates. He had also sent some texts to that effect. The 17-year-old said he’d bring a gun and carry out the deed, but didn’t specify what day. After interviewing the boy, he was placed under arrest for terrorizing. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Two – count ‘em – TWO kids at Carroll High School AND Carroll Junior High in Monroe were arrested today for bringing guns to school. Both have been booked into the Green Oak Detention Center on weapons charges. Police say both campuses are now safe and secured.

Authorities in Beauregard Parish report four people drowned Friday while swimming in the Sabine River. Beauregard Sheriff Mark Herford says recent rains had swollen the river and the current was just too strong…:

The four-year-old victim has been identified as Bentley Lane Fountain. The adults are Troy McCollough of the Junction community, Kelly Bailey of Hornbeck, and Austin Scott of DeRidder.
