Nicholls State Biosciences Associate Professor Chris Bonvillain is conducting research on crawfish and how they survive in waters with low-oxygen levels. He says it appears they are maturing smaller in size, and he believes stress poor water quality can reduce number of eggs found in crawfish…

Thirty-year-old Davante Lewis unseated three-term Public Service Commissioner Lambert Boissiere Saturday for the Third District. Lewis is the first openly LGBTQ person to win elective office in Louisiana, but he doesn’t think it was a factor in the race.

After Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the state experienced a mass exodus of property insurers, and the past two seasons have caused at least 10 companies to leave. Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says back then they offered $30 million in incentives to entice companies and he’s hopeful it will work again.

Donelon says they are waiting to hear how much money the Revenue Estimating Conference says is available for incentives.

All three of the constitutional amendments on the December 10^th ballot passed. They were overwhelmingly approved with more than 70 percent of the vote. Amendment One prohibits noncitizens from voting even though it’s already illegal in the state. According to the Secretary of State’s office says unofficial voter turnout 14 percent.

Tis the season to stay healthy. State health officials say this is the worst flu season in five years and COVID cases are surging again. 4500 new cases at last count. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says take precautions against both illnesses now…:

A 15-year-old was killed and two 14-year-olds were injured in a shooting at a birthday party in Bogalusa Friday night. Bogalusa Police say the shooting happened around 9:40 Friday at a house on Warren Street. They have few other details to share at this time. An investigation is underway.

Longtime District 3 Public Service Commission member Lambert Boissierre was defeated in Saturday’s runoff by 30-year-old Davante Lewis. Once sworn in, Lewis says he wants to work toward using more renewable energy and relying less on oil & gas. He says, currently, only 2-percent of our power comes from so-called green energy…:

The 2022 Prep Classic saw three terrific games yesterday in the Superdome. St. Thomas More rallied from 10 points down with a minute 45 seconds left to beat Lafayette Christian 52-48 to win the division 2 select championship. St. Charles Catholic rallied from eleven points down in the fourth quarter to beat Dunham in the division three select state championship. And Destrehan completed an undefeated season by winning the division one non-select title game as the Wildcats beat the Ruston Bearcats 17 to 10. There are three more games today.

Today is Election Day in Louisiana and polls are open until 8pm tonight. Voters across the state will have the opportunity to vote on three proposed amendments to the state constitution. The December 10th election also includes runoff races from the November 8th primary. A little more than 20 Parishes also have local propositions and candidate races on the ballot. State Police have identified the man who was shot and killed by a trooper after a police chase on I-10 near downtown Baton Rouge early Friday morning. They say 52-year-old Jose Reza-Navarro of Spring, Texas crashed his vehicle and fled on foot when for unknown reasons was shot by the trooper. A search of Reza-Navarro’s vehicle uncovered 83 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of 2.5 million dollars.

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin is reminding everyone that Saturday is Election Day. Polls open at 7:00am and close at 8:00pm. A Eunice couple accused of abusing their adopted daughter and foster son has been arrested.  Eunice Police have charged 41-year-old Robert Leason for molestation and indecent behavior with juveniles, and his 46-year-old wife Sheri Leason for second-degree cruelty to juveniles. The Leason’s adopted a 12-year-old girl in 2019 and have been fostering a 7-year-old boy since 2021.

Thursday was a big day for northeast Louisiana high school football as both Ouachita Christian and Oak Grove won state titles. O-C-S won its eighth state title in school history with a 28-14 victory over Vermilion Catholic.  O-C-S Coach Steven Fitzhugh says a long touchdown drive right before halftime was the key…
