Today is the last day of parades until next January. It will be an early Mardi Gras in 2024 as Fat Tuesday next year is February 13th.

Authorities arrest a 19-year-old in connection with the Sunday night shooting death of a person in the Coteau area. Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Katherine Breaux says Caiden Sheridan was arrested by Lake Charles police Monday night…:

The victim’s name has not been released pending positive identification from the coroner.

Detectives in Vernon Parish are asking the public for help with a 33-year-old cold case of a teen that disappeared…:

Deputies in Tangipahoa Parish have now recovered over 160 stolen cellphones, and made additional arrests of a gang of pickpockets from Miami, who came to Louisiana to prey on Mardi Gras parade revelers. If your phone was pilfered, contact the Tangipahoa sheriff’s Office to see if they have it.

Details have been released in Saturday’s fatal shooting of a 16-year-old from Texas during the Krewe of Gemini Parade in Shreveport. Police say the victim and his friends were chasing each around the vehicle they arrived in with plastic swords when another 16-year-old obtained a handgun and shot the victim. The juvenile suspect was detained at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is facing backlash after being caught on video making obscene gestures during the Krewe of Tucks parade over the weekend. Cantrell has taken heat for alleged actions while in office. New Orleans political analyst Clancy Dubos believes the recent incident will play into the narrative of disapproval with taxpayers.

Cantrell has not publicly addressed the matter.

15-year-old Tammy Call from Leesville High School disappeared 33 years ago and seven years later, her remains were found in the Sandy Hill area. Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft has taken to social media to encourage anyone with information to contact them. Craft says they found her book bag but the case grew cold.

Anyone with leads is asked to share on their Facebook post about the cold case.

A digital display moment of Mayor LaToya Cantrell has put her in the line of scrutiny again. Cantrell made an obscene gesture at float riders in the Krewe of Tucks parade over the weekend. The video shows Cantrell shouting “I love you” and giving “the finger”. New Orleans political analyst Clancy Dubos says it is common for float designs to be cynical.

The cold case of 15-year-old Tammy Call who disappeared from Leesville High School 33 years ago has resurfaced. Call’s remains were found seven years later in the Sandy Hill area. On the anniversary of her disappearance, Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft made a post on social media to encourage anyone with information to contact them.

He says all leads can help solve the case.

Today will be a nice warm and partly cloudy Mardi Gras. State Climatologist Barry Keim (Kime) says the weather will be pleasant for parade goers.

The celebration of Mardi Gras goes beyond tradition for Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.  His great aunt Aminthe (ah-men-eth) Nungesser founded the Krewe of Iris and led the initiative for women to have the right to march in Mardi Gras – 106 years ago.

The City of Eunice celebrates Courir de Mardi Gras – the largest annual event dating back to the 19^th century. Not your typical Mardi Gras with doubloons and beads – chasing chickens and colorful costumes have become a great attraction for revelers from around the world. City of Eunice Events Coordinator, Courtney Elkins says attendance is growing and the city is excited to welcome revelers.

In Vernon Parish, the sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in solving a cold case. The remains of 15-year-old Tammy Call were located in February 1997 on West Boundary Road in the Area of Sandy Hill on Highway 10. She disappeared from Leesville High School on February 20th, 1990. Anyone with information is urged to call the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Caiden Sheridan wanted in the shooting death of another person on Sunday night was captured in Lake Charles. Sheridan is back in Iberia Parish and was booked on one count of second degree murder. No bond has been set and no other information has been made available.

Temperatures will remain warm over the next several days.

New Orleans Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed one man and injured four others including a four-year-girl and charged him with second-degree murder. It happened around 9:30 last night towards the end of the Krewe of Bacchus Parade. At a press conference this afternoon Acting NOPD Superintendent Michelle Woodfork says they’ve arrested Mansour Mbodj.

Police are still gathering evidence including surveillance footage from individuals and homes in the area. Woodfork wouldn’t say if it was a targeted attack or if he was the sole gunman, only that he’s been arrested.

The ages of the victims range from four years to 24 years old.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire that destroyed the New Friendship Baptist Church in Grant Parish Thursday is not suspicious. SFMO spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says investigators have determined the blaze began in a mechanical room and they are trying to determine if it was electric or weather-related.

Church members plan to rebuild the more than 70-year-old building.

State Wildlife & Fisheries agents have arrested 23-year-old Luis Garcia for allegedly catching and selling over $350-thousand worth of Louisiana oysters. LDWF spokesman Adam Einck (“EYE-kn”) says it the investigation started last November when Garcia, without a license was stopped by agents on Lake Borgne. As for those who purchased the oyster, Einck says none of the customers are being charged, at this time.

One person is dead and four others injured after gunfire erupts on St. Charles Avenue during the Bacchus Parade in New Orleans. Jeff Palermo has more..:

There were one or more shooting incidents during the Krewe of Gemini parade in Shreveport Saturday. Details from SPD are scarce, but we do know a teen from Marshall, Texas was shot and killed. The other shooting is unconfirmed at this time, but we are told a person was shot and wounded. Mayor Tom Arceneaux says parades will be safer going forward.

A head-on crash in Terrebonne Parish kills two and seriously injures two others. Trooper Ross Brennan says that shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday on Highway 57 near Dulac, Craig and Cookie Boudreaux were traveling south in a Silverado and a Mitsubishi driven by 60-year-old Jorge Hernandez was traveling north…:

Toxicology samples were taken from both drivers – live and dead – to see if impairment played a role in the crash.

In St. Martin Parish a single-vehicle crash killed two Breaux Bridge residents Sunday afternoon. 41-year-old Christopher Thibodeaux and his 16-year-old nephew Carter Potts were both killed. Thibodeaux was NOT wearing a seatbelt, the teen was. Gossen says it’s unknown whether Thibodeaux being unrestrained caused injury to Carter…:
