Metairie Democrat Stephanie Hilferty’s bill advances; headed next to a Senate committee.

A pair of southwest Louisiana teens are arrested for allegedly shooting into a crowd of people last Saturday night in Lake Charles. 18-year-old Harry Pendleton of L.C. and 19-year-old Chelsey Ned of DeQuincy each face multiple charges and are in the Calcasieu Parish jail. Cops say it’s fortunate that no one was hit by any of the gunfire.

State Police report two people died overnight in a head-on crash in Washington Parish in Franklinton. Both drivers were women, and troopers confirm at least one of them was not wearing a safety belt. The crash is under investigation.

Researchers at LSU have developed a patent-pending bait to help control the state’s wild hog population. Researcher Glenn Gentry says the bait makes them fall asleep and impedes the flow of oxygen, and there’s no risk to humans or other animals that might eat their remains. Some worry it would eradicate them completely, but Gentry says hunters have nothing to worry about.

A Bossier Parish High School teacher has been charged with Indecent Behavior and Prohibited Conduct. The Bossier Parish Sheriffs Office says 36-year-old Lacey Oakes of Haughton allegedly shared sexual images and played a sexually explicit game with students. Oakes was terminated from her employment.

In Calcasieu Parish an early Sunday morning game of hide and seek ends with a gunshot wound to the back of a 14-year-old girl’s head. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says 58-year-old David Doyle of Starks told deputies he saw shadows outside his home, went inside to retrieve a gun, then back outside and fired shots when he saw several people running away from his property. Among his charges are aggravated battery and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. The girl has non-life-threatening injuries.

Economist Ed Seyler says by providing more data to show which locations benefit from the tax incentive, it could possibly direct stakeholders to grow the industry in other sections of the state…

The bill is in response to the death of three-year-old, Devin Page Junior, who was hit by a stray bullet from a drive-by shooting. The child’s grandmother Cathy Toliver says her daughter pleaded with the landlord to let her out of her lease the day her grandson was fatally shot…

An ordinance called “Devin’s Law” designed to make rental properties safer by imposing new regulations was passed last year by The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Council. Opponents of the legislation say the bill is too excessive for property owners.

59 year David Doyle of Starks faces a number of charges after he allegedly shot a 14-year-old girl who was playing hide and seek on his property this past weekend. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office says Doyle shot at people he saw running away from his property. The girl is expected to be okay.

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the April 28th fatal shooting of an employee at Mandina’s restaurant in New Orleans. The alleged gunman, 22-year-old Kyron Fazande, was taken into custody at a home in Houston. He’s accused of killing 23-year-old Hilbert Walker the Third. A customer at the restaurant was also wounded.
