State Police report three vehicles were involved in a crash Saturday night in Jeff Davis Parish that left a motorcyclist and his passenger dead. Trooper Derek Senegal says the pair were hit from behind by one vehicle and thrown into the opposite lane, where they were hit by other traffic. He says troopers took blood toxicology samples from all drivers, to detect impairment, if that was the case. He says they will also examine each vehicle’s “black box”…:

The Natchitoches Parish President is accused of simple battery for an alleged altercation with a woman at the recent Natchitoches Jazz/R&B Festival. Parish President John Richmond has a court date scheduled in August. He was also arrested three years for an alleged fight at a local restaurant.

Shreveport cops were alerted to a suspicious package shipped to the Overton Brooks V.A. hospital there, and found it contained 42 pounds of marijuana. The intended recipient was located and arrested for distribution of drugs.

One of the founders of New Orleans’ largest and most prestigious Mardi Gras Kerewes, Ed Muniz, passed away over the weekend. Muniz was a former Mayor of the city of Kenner, a former city and parish councilman and owner-operator of numerous radio stations. Mardi Gras historian Arthur hardy says Endymion was Muniz’ creation; birthed on a small scale, but with colossal vision…:

Trooper Derek Senegal says for unknown reasons a motorcycle was struck from behind by a Camaro. 67-year-old Jacob Touchet of Iowa was driving the Harley Davidson. He and his passenger, 60-year-old Susan Trahan of Lafayette, were both killed…:

The death of former Kenner mayor and Krewe of Endymion founder Ed Muniz has many remembering his forever public legacy. Muniz died over the weekend after battling health issues over recent years. The Mardi Gras Guide Publisher Arthur Hardy says Muniz was a pillar in the community.

The Krewe of Endymion rolled for the first time in 1967, and became what many would consider Muniz’s greatest legacy. With more than 3,000 riders and floats, Endymion is now one of Mardi Gras’s biggest parades. Hardy says Endymion started small but Muniz’s vision was colossal.

Muniz served more than 25 years on Kenner City Council, Jefferson Parish Council, and as Kenner’s mayor. He also owned and operated several commercial radio stations in six southern states and later sold them to a national radio chain.

Delgado Community College opened the Endymion Garden which features a 7-foot statue of Muniz just a week before his death.

Senegal says toxicology samples were taken, and troopers are still examining evidence to determine was led to the crash. He says the investigation includes an analysis of the vehicle’s “blackbox”.

Baton Rouge Police are investigating another deadly shooting in the capital city today, the fourth shooting death since yesterday morning. So far, no arrests have been announced or if the shootings are related.

Trooper Derek Senegal says a motorcycle was struck from behind by a car, and cyclist 67-year-old Jacob Touchet of Iowa and passenger 60-year-old Susan Trahan of Lafayette were both killed after they were thrown into oncoming traffic. Investigators are looking at the vehicle’s black boxes.

Lewis, a former associate AD who worked in the football operations building, is suing the LSU Board of Supervisors because she claims she endured a hostile work environment and was retaliated against after she tried to report Miles sexually harassed a student. In Washington, US Senator John Kennedy sent a strong message home to his counterparts in the Louisiana Senate to pass legislation to hold third graders back who are unable to read on grade level. The House Bill failed to pass in the Senate last year and pleaded with state senators to do so this year.

State lawmakers have three weeks left to decide how they want to spend two-point-two billion dollars in surplus money. Republican House leaders would like to use 950 million dollars to pay down pension debt. House Speaker Clay Schexnayder…

But Governor Edwards says 296 million dollars is available to give teachers a three-thousand dollar pay raise. Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the state also has the opportunity also has to make a significant investment toward other priorities…

7 people were injured after gunfire erupted in the Marydale community in Thibodaux last night. The motive and suspects are unknown at this time. No fatalities were reported. Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre says the investigation is ongoing.

Legislation aimed at improving the state’s property insurance market for consumers has an advocacy group concerned. Executive Director of Real Reform LouisianaBenjamin Riggs says SB 96, from Jefferson Parish Senator Kirk Talbot, is one that seems intended to help the state-run insurer of last resort but could easily hurt the insured…:

Riggs is concerned there may not be enough time remaining to get real beneficial insurance reforms to final passage, before the session ends June 8^th.

With three weeks remaining in the legislative session, how are bills aimed at improving Louisiana’s property insurance environment for consumers coming along? Benjamin Riggs is Executive Director of Real Reform Louisiana; an insurance consumer advocacy group. Riggs says they like House Bill 252…:

A vote is expected soon by the Louisiana Senate to raise the spending cap, which allows the state to spend a higher portion of the two-point-two billion dollars in surplus revenue. Senate President Page Cortez has already made the argument for it…
