Kaplan Strategies of Florida surveyed one-thousand likely voters just before the Fourth of July and 30-percent support Landry as the state’s next governor, and most others in single digits. Pollster Doug Kaplan’s poll shows 20-percent back the lone major Democrat in the race, Shawn Wilson. He says Wilson will need to rally to pull off an upset this fall…:

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they arrested 12 boaters statewide for alleged driving a vessel while intoxicated (DWI) during the annual Operation Dry Water Weekend from July 1^st through the 3rd. The bad news: it’s the same number of arrests from the July 4^th weekend a year ago. The good news: it’s not more than last year.

An independent poll of one-thousand voters who were asked about the upcoming the governor’s race finds that 30-percent support Republican Jeff Landry, 20-percent support Democrat Shawn Wilson. Pollster Doug Kaplan says Landry could get close to 50-percent, if the other Republican candidates drop out….

Millions of people on Twitter have started an account on Threads, which launched yesterday as an alternative to Twitter. It’s operated by Meta which handles Facebook. Governor John Bel Edwards was in Bunkie this morning to break ground on the largest high-speed internet project to date that’s funded by the GUMBO program. According to the governor’s office, the project will bring high-speed affordable internet to 91-hundred households and 535 small businesses in Avoyelles Parish.

From 2019 – 2022, pedestrians and cyclists combined a total of 84 hundred traffic-related fatalities.  In Louisiana. That’s according to TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit. Director of Policy and Research Rocky Moretti says motorcyclists represented 14 percent of those fatalities. He says traffic fatalities are costly.

Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama have the lowest booster rates in the country.

According to a recent study by TRIP, a national transportation research nonprofit, nearly 900 people were killed last year on Louisiana roads, that’s a 21 percent increase from 2019, resulting in $37 billion in property damage and health care costs. Director of Policy and Research Rocky Moretti says motorists must do their part and agencies need to make much-needed roadway improvements.

From 2019-2022, the traffic fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles of travel (VMT) increased by 18 percent.

Northwestern State University’s economic value is $520 million in income and the school supports more than seven thousand jobs, that’s according to an economic impact study. University President Dr. Marcus Jones says the study highlights the value of the university on an individual, community, and state level.

Corps spokesperson Ricky Boyette says it’s needed because the Mississippi is at a low level, but still navigable for ship traffic…
