LSU will reportedly not have one of the team’s top defensive lineman for their season opener against Florida State on September 3rd. Sources say the NCAA is suspending defensive tackle Maason Smith for the season opener for receiving improper benefits, before college athletes could take advantage of name image and likeness. Jacobian Guillory, West Virginia transfer Jordan Jefferson, and second team AP all-American Mekhi Wingo will be LSU’s primary interior defensive lineman against Florida State.

Zy Alexander is projected to be a starter at cornerback by the Tiger Rag Audibles Podcast. The Southeastern Louisiana transfer was first team all-Southland in 2022, and says how the jump has been in FBS football, including guarding LSU receiving core in practice.

Officials are urging the public not to cook outside or to light a fire pit this time due to the extreme heat and drought to prevent fires.

A large wildfire forced evacuations south of Grand Cane in DeSoto Parish. Authorities issued a mandatory evacuation for residents on Phil Davis Road between Radio Station Road and Blunt Mill Road. The fire kept jumping the fire line traveling south-southwest. The blaze is now 100% contained and people were allowed to return to their homes.

The Saints practiced today ahead of their preseason finale with the Houston Texans on Sunday. Not at practice today were Bryan Bresee and A.T. Perry, but Marshon Lattimore and Clavin Throckmorton participated in individual drills and left practice soon after. Head Coach Dennis Allen does not expect any of those to be serious.

The Saints play nine road games this year including in Green Bay and Minnesota. Allen says that the team worked on playing in noisy environments on both sides of the ball, and he says what they are doing to prepare.
