A new law that went into effect this year allows more students to receive free meals. Rhonda Jackson, Director of No Kid Hungry Louisiana says there’s a common misconception about how dire the need is for students, especially when the state is known for such good food.

The Louisiana Office of Tourism launches a new ad campaign to bring more visitors to the state. The “My Louisiana” campaign promotes staycations, domestic and international travel. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says the ads will run on billboards, in major outlets, and through other formats.

A new ad campaign to bring more tourists to the Bayou State is underway. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Office of Tourism launched the “My Louisiana” campaign to promote domestic and international travel. Nungesser says the campaign shows potential visitors that Louisiana has something for everyone.

The campaign will use digital video, print advertising, streaming audio, still photography, visitor guide, and will run on billboards, in major outlets.

According to the Louisiana Lottery, $16 million in scratch-offs was won statewide, nearly $12 million from lottery tickets last month, and $877 thousand in fast-play winnings. And that’s not all, Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison…

A new law that went into effect this year allows more students to receive free meals. Rhonda Jackson, Director of No Kid Hungry Louisiana says there are three categories of school meals, free, reduced meals, and paid lunch.

The bipartisan legislation provides $860,000 in funding each year which allows 14,000 more students eligible for free meals.

This week’s U-S Drought Monitor reveals that 95 percent of the state remains in a drought. State climatologist Barry Keim says many parishes in the “extreme and exceptional” drought areas have gotten worse.

But State Climatologist Barry Keim says the conditions in the extreme southeastern part of the state have improved.

This year’s Christmas Grinch is the state’s extreme drought. Christmas Town, a tree farm in Tangipahoa Parish, announced it will not open for business this year. Owner Lisa Miller says the severe drought has destroyed the harvest for the 2023 season.

While other tree farms have lost trees, it’s not to the extent of those lost at Christmas Town.

The oppressive weather has 95 percent of the state drought according to the U-S Drought Monitor. State climatologist Barry Keim says the southwest corner of Louisiana is classified as exceptionally dry along with Northshore and the Baton Rouge area. Keim says almost 70 percent of the state is in D3 or D4 status.
