One point of concern is those still in temporary housing after the effects of Hurricane Ida and recent tornadoes. Coach Brian Kelly announced on his radio show last night that senior defensive end Ali Gaye will not play in the Citrus Bowl on January 2nd. Kelly also confirmed junior defensive tackle Jaquelin Roy will not play in the game as he declared for the NFL draft.

The LSU Men’s Basketball team was able to hold off an East Tennessee State second half rally to win 72-68 Wednesday night in the PMAC. The Tigers are now 11-1 on the season and open SEC play on Wednesday, December 28th against Arkansas.

Also in men’s hoops, Louisiana Tech clobbered Jarvis Christian Wednesday 108-52. Tulane prevailed over Mississippi Valley State 84-63. Southeastern beat Southern 80-62. McNeese State fell to Houston 83-42. UL-Lafayette lost to Texas 100-72.

The New Orleans Pelicans will face San Antonio tonight and they’ll do it without forward Zion Williamson who ESPN reports has been placed in the league’s health and safety protocols. The Pels are 18-12 and in third place in the Western Conference. New Orleans will also be without forward Brandon Ingram for at least two more games, coach Willie Green said earlier Wednesday.

New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis was selected to the NFC’s Pro Bowl Team Wednesday night, the first time in his outstanding 11-year career he’s earned the honor.

St. Charles Catholic rallied from eleven points down in the fourth quarter to beat Dunham in the division three select state championship. And Destrehan completed an undefeated season by winning the division one non-select title game as the Wildcats beat the Ruston Bearcats 17 to 10. There are three more games today.

Today is Election Day in Louisiana and polls are open until 8pm tonight. Voters across the state will have the opportunity to vote on three proposed amendments to the state constitution. The December 10th election also includes runoff races from the November 8th primary. A little more than 20 Parishes also have local propositions and candidate races on the ballot. It still remains to be seen who’s in or out for the 2023 gubernatorial race as several candidates wait to see if Senator John Kennedy makes it official. Lt. State Police have identified the man who was shot and killed by a trooper after a police chase on I-10 near downtown Baton Rouge early Friday morning. They say 52-year-old Jose Reza-Navarro of Spring, Texas crashed his vehicle and fled on foot when for unknown reasons was shot by the trooper. A search of Reza-Navarro’s vehicle uncovered 83 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of 2.5 million dollars.

Zion Williamson put on a thrilling show Friday night as the New Orleans Pelicans star got the ball in the final minutes of the 128-117 win over the Suns and delivered a 360 windmill dunk that looked like something out of the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. That move capped off a 35-point game for Zion who was 13 of 17 from the field with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal. The win keeps the Pelicans at first place in the West and they’ll play the Suns again Sunday in The Blender at 2:30.

The LSU men’s basketball team returns to the court this afternoon to take on Wake Forest in the Holiday Hoopsgiving event in Atlanta. The Tigers are 7 and 1 while the Demon Deacons are 7 and 2. Tipoff is at 1pm.

The seven and two Northwestern State Demons host ULM at 3:30 this afternoon. A win for Northwestern State and they will match the school’s best ten-game start in 70 years. The Warhawks are 3-and-6. La Tech is at Wyoming and the Ragin Cajuns host Samford.
