There are now two people under arrest in a shooting that injured 11 people at a frat house near Southern University early Friday morning, but Baton Rouge Police say they are still looking for the shooter or shooters. The Lafayette Police Department has a new chief who becomes the first female to ever hold the position. Mayor-President Josh Guillory announced Friday Captain Judith Estorge, who has worked at the Lafayette Police Department since 1993, brings all of the qualities necessary to lead the LPD as their next Chief.

The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a four-year contract extension for athletic director Scott Woodward that runs through 2029 and pays $1.85 million per year. He could also earn a $500,000 bonus if LSU wins a national championship in any sport.

UL-Lafayette will host Arkansas St this afternoon at 4. The Red Wolves sit two spots behind the Cajuns in the race for the Sun-Belt West.

Mardi Gras Parades in New Orleans next year will remain on the same shortened routes they used in 2022. The announcement came at a meeting of the Mayor’s Mardi Gras Advisory Council last night. They cited a shrinking NOPD force as the reason for keeping the routes shorter in 2022, and since then they’ve continued to lose police officers.

The multi-state Mega Millions jackpot has grown to a whopping $455-million for tonight’s drawing. That’s would be a $226-million lump sum payout to a lone winner. If there is winner tonight, it will be the 12th largest in the game’s history. Tickets will be on sale until 9 tonight.

 

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources has awarded contracts to Dynamic Group and Lemoine Disaster Recovery to plug orphaned oil wells in north Louisiana. DNR spokesperson Patrick Courreges says the state currently plugs 120 to 200 wells per year. They hope to double that number with these federal dollars, but they are still in discussions with these two companies to see if that can be done…:

To address a statewide shortage of qualified nurses, LSU Health New Orleans will teach nurses how to teach nurses. LSU Health’s Leanne Fowler says the school has received a $3-million federal grant to create a new program to help ease the nursing shortage in four states, including Louisiana…:

The Louisiana Department of Insurance announced Monday its approved rates for the 100,000 plus homeowners who have home insurance policies with Louisiana Citizens to increase by 63%. The change takes effect January 1st, but the increase wouldn’t kick in until a policy holder renews. Citizens is the state’s insurer of last resort, and it made the request because the costs of reinsurance shot up, according to state Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon.
