At the scene where three Baton Rouge police officers were fatally shot, members of a saddened community are placing flowers and balloons to express their support for the fallen officers. Police Chaplin Bob Ossler of New Jersey put three crosses above the impromptu memorial for the officers who were killed and prayed with the people who came with flowers. A Louisiana Senator is facing his second arrest for domestic abuse charges. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office says Senator Troy Brown was booked Sunday on charges stemming from allegations that he bit his wife on the arm during an altercation. Brown was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse.

The man who authorities say planned the ambush on police officers in Baton
Rouge, killing three and wounding three others, was seeking justice for the
death of Alton Sterling according to his social media posts. In Gavin Long’s

Friends and family members of the Louisiana law enforcement officers who lost
their lives are devastated today as they mourn their loved ones. David St.

Brad Garafola. Romain says Deputy Garafola was the school resource officer at
Woodlawn High when he was a student there…:

The other officers who died are 41-year-old Matthew Gerald and 32 year old
Montrell Jackson from BRPD.

A 4-year-old boy was killed in a murder-suicide in Sulphur Sunday night,
authorities said. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office says it appears 59-
year-old Kenneth Bacque shot his son before turning the gun on himself. They
had received reports that Baque had posted on Facebook that he was going to
kill himself and possibly his 4 year old, and responding authorities arrived
and found the man and his son dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

State Police believe the cop killer in Baton Rouge was out to target and ambush the officers he shot. From BRPD, 41-year-old Matthew Gerald and 32-year-old Montrell Jackson died. East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Garafola also succumbed to his injuries, and officials say another deputy is recovering and another in critical condition. State Police Col Mike Edmonson says they will stop at nothing to figure out the motive of the deceased shooter, 29-year-old Gavin Long of Kansas City Missouri…:

State Police officially confirmed the identity of the man who shot and killed three law enforcement officers, and injured 3 others Sunday in Baton Rouge. They confirmed through fingerprints that it was 29-year-old Gavin Long of Kansas Missouri. Officials say they will release additional information about the investigation at a 2pm news conference. State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says at 8:40 yesterday morning, a police officer saw an individual wearing all black and holding a rifle on Airline Highway and two minutes later there were reports of shots fired…:

The two Baton Rouge police officers killed have been identified as 41-year-old Matthew Gerald and 32-year-old Montrell Jackson. 45-year-old EBRSO Deputy Brad Garafola also died. Sheriff Sid Gautreaux says 41-year-old deputy Nicholas Tullier is currently in critical condition, and 51-year-old Bruce Simmons has non-life threatening injuries.

The fatal officer shootings in Baton Rouge came two days after the funeral of Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man fatally shot during a confrontation with two white police officers. The shooting of Sterling set off a series of protests seeking justice. Governor John Bel Edwards says Baton Rouge is a community hurting, but more violence is not the answer…:

LSU Coach Les Miles has cancelled his yearly trip to ESPN in light of the killings of three cops in Baton Rouge. In a statement, Miles said his heart hurts for Baton Rouge and what’s been happening in our community over the past couple of weeks. He says he continues to pray for peace, compassion and civility as our city mourns during this extremely sad time for Baton Rouge. Miles was supposed to visit ESPN studios today for the annual seven hour tour through its facilities — also known as the car wash. A spokesman for the team says Miles will not reschedule his appearance for later this week.

In the British open, Henrik Stenson is the champion golfer of the year as he made 10 birdies Sunday on his way to an 8 under par 63 that allowed him to win by three shots over Phil Mickelson. It’s the 11th time in major that Mickelson was a runner-up.

LSU quarterback Brandon Harris has been named to the All SEC third team. Ole Miss signal caller Chad Kelly is a first-team second selection and Tennessee’s Joshua Dobbs is on the second-team. Tigers center Ethan Pocic expects great things from Harris this year…:

ULM political science professor Dr. Joshua Stockley says US Representative John Fleming reports $2.4 million in his campaign funds and State Treasurer John Kennedy has collected $1.4 million. Stockley says name recognition give Kennedy an advantage.

Thousands gathered at Southern University Friday morning for Alton Sterling’s funeral service, and to call for justice. State Police say a pedestrian was killed in Monroe. Trooper Michael Reichardt says 53-year-old Matthew Davis was struck and killed as he was trying to cross US Hwy 165 at a busy intersection…:

A wrong way driver on I-20 in Monroe also died in a fiery crash following a head on collision with an 18 wheeler. 31-year-old Christopher Moss of Calhoun crossed the median for unknown reasons then smashed into the big rig.

Police were involved in another shooting Friday morning in Jefferson Parish. Sheriff Newell Normand says deputies were involved in a high speed chase after seeing a vehicle linked to multiple car burglaries. He says 40-year-old Melissa Belanger used her truck as a weapon against officers so a deputy fired shots hitting her wrists. The sheriff says she’ll be charged once released from the hospital.

The Democratic campaign fundraising for the US Senate race has been unimpressive thus far, according to ULM political science professor Joshua Stockley. Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell has reported $868-thousand in the bank, and Caroline Fayard has $643-thousand on hand. Stockley says the Democrats got off to a late start in fundraising, and they are basically splitting the available campaign dollars from Democratic donors.

Thousands gathered today at the Southern University F.G. Clark Activity Center for Alton Sterling’s funeral service. Jack Turner with the Revolution Club in Atlanta says he came to the service because there is an epidemic of police shootings.

There was another police shooting today. Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand says they are working to get additional warrants and the investigation is ongoing. He says the fact that 40-year-old Melissa Belanger tried to run over the officer with her vehicle justifies the use of force by the deputy.

Normand says they believe Belanger has a drug addiction and was using the money from robbing cars to feed her habit.

A Calhoun man died in a firey crash in Monroe last night after driving the wrong way down I-20, according to State Police. Senior Trooper Michael Reichardt says 31-year-old Christopher Moss crossed the median and ran into a big rig. He says both the driver and the passenger in the 18-wheeler were properly restrained.
