But former Governor Kathleen Blanco says one of her biggest takeaways from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is that people in Louisiana are fighters, and they don’t give up…:

For the second consecutive year, the Saints start their season with three consecutive losses. New Orleans lost to Atlanta 45-32 last night. The game started well as the Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but the game turned when De’Vante Harris ran over returner Tommylee Lewis, causing a muffed punt and giving Atlanta the ball on the New Orleans 11-yard line. Quarterback Drew Brees put up his usual great numbers with 376 yards and three touchdowns passing, but had an interception that was returned for a touchdown which turned out to be too much for the Saints to overcome.

LSU starting defensive tackle Davon Godchaux was arrested early Monday for allegedly roughing up his girlfriend during an argument, according to police. LSU has suspended him indefinitely.

In LSWA honors, Louisiana Tech Quarterback Ryan Higgins was named Offensive Player of the Week. The Defensive Players of the week are linebacker Nico Marley of Tulane, and Nicholls State defensive back B.T. Sanders. The Special Teams Player of the Week is Tulane’s kicker, Andrew DiRocco.

Five weeks after the historic flooding in south Louisiana, many people still have debris piled up in their front yards. Spokesperson for the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Mike Steele, says crews have hit the 55-percent mark for completion of debris removal…:

Steele says they have more crews working now, so hopefully the second half of the cleanup will go faster than the first.

LSU interim head coach Ed Orgeron promises changes to LSU’s offense. The Tigers rank dead last in the SEC in passing and 12th in the league in total offense. Orgeron says they want to spread the ball around and make the passing game more dynamic…:

Orgeron will make his debut as interim head coach on Saturday night when the Tigers take on Missouri.

Education leaders in Louisiana are looking at ways to improve public education, in compliance with a new federal law that goes into effect next school year. State Superintendent John White says the “Every Student Succeeds Act” requires states to outline a plan for improving education. He says students MUST remain the focus of the discussions…:

White says in the near future, they will draft the framework for a plan to improve education.

The Saints remain winless after falling to the Falcons last night 45-32.

An LSU player was booked into jail Monday on charges of domestic abuse battery/child endangerment and false imprisonment, after cops say he got into a fight with his girlfriend. LSU said Davon Godchaux is indefinitely suspended from the team.

Ed Orgeron has taken over as interim head coach at LSU. Athletic Director Joe Alleva spoke to reporters today about the decision to let former head Coach Les Miles go. Alleva says Miles cares a lot for the players, and he did a great job developing them into fine young men. He says at this time, he feels Coach O is the right man to take over the program.

Alleva says making such a change is never easy, but changes within the program need to happen.

Miles spoke about the issue today as well when he made an appearance on the Dan Patrik Show on Direct TV’s Audience. He said he didn’t fight the decision, but hinted that he would like to coach again.

Miles was the head coach for over 11 seasons and won 77-percent of his games.

Tonight is the first one on one presidential debate between presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Emelie Gunn has more on what to expect…

A new poll shows there’s also a tight race for the US Senate seat in Louisiana. JMC analytics pollster John Couvillon says former frontrunner John Kennedy’s numbers have dropped 7 percentage points to 11-percent.

The poll also found that 25-percent of voters are still undecided.

There’s a new poll out on the US Senate race and this one looks very different than some previous ones. JMC Analytics pollster John Couvillon says the survey shows Congressman Charles Boustany and Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell are tied for the lead at 15-percent, and Fleming and New Orleans attorney Caroline Fayard are just behind them at third and fourth place respectively. He says former front runner John Kennedy’s numbers have dropped 7 percentage points to 11-percent…:

The ACLU of Louisiana is reacting to reports about a man who was arrested in Lafayette and charged with “flag desecration.” Charri Mohamad was booked for allegedly being shown on tape burning an American flag, and tearing up another. In a release, the ACLU of Louisiana says it is not a crime to destroy or damage the flag, and an arrest like this is a violation of Mohamad’s first amendment rights.

Baton rouge Police are investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a driver and ejected a small child from the vehicle before it burst into flames. They say it happened last night as a Cadillac Deville entered the lane of another vehicle and struck it on Airline Highway. The Cadillac, driven by 24-year-old Ronald Dunn, then crashed and rolled throwing the small child from the vehicle. Dunn died, but the child is in stable condition. The crash remains under investigation.

A man who was convicted in August of second degree murder in the death of his wife in 1962 has been sentenced to life in prison. A jury found Felix Vail guilty of killing Mary Horton Vail and trying to make it look like a drowning accident on the Calcasieu River.

LSU fans got a huge shock Sunday afternoon as they learned Head Coach Les Miles was terminated. The Mad Hatter had 114 wins, a BCS National Championship and two SEC championships over 12 years. Senior wide receiver Travin Dural of Breaux Bridge says he showed up to a 5:00 meeting yesterday and never thought he would be told that Miles was let go.

Presidential candidates, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, will duke it out tonight in their first debate.. ULM Political Science Professor Dr. Joshua Stockley expects viewers will see the combination of information and typical candidate sparring, as the clock is ticking on the campaign and the polls are tight.

A new poll shows it’s a tight race for the open US Senate seat in Louisiana. John Couvillon, with JMC Analytics and Polling, says five candidates have an opportunity to make the runoff as there’s been movement since he surveyed this race in July.

Campbell and Boustany are tied for the lead at 15-percent.

A new book alleges Congressman Charles Boustany was involved with prostitutes who were murdered in Jefferson Davis parish. Author Ethan Brown says a lot of media outlets have been reporting the claims against the congressman, but in all the stories he’s seen, reporters have noted that they have not been able to independently verify the allegations.

The book explores 8 murders that took place in Jefferson Davis parish between 2005 and 2009.

After 11 plus seasons and 114 wins, Les Miles is no longer the head coach at LSU. Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron were let go after a loss to Auburn dropped the Tigers out of the AP Top 25. Safety Jamal Adams says Miles spoke with the team before he left.

Miles led the Tigers to a BCS National Championship and two SEC Championships.

Congressman Garret Graves is not happy that flood victims are still struggling a month after the flood. He says if people can’t repair their homes, there will be less property tax revenue to fund schools, fire departments and drainage systems.

Tonight’s Saints game marks ten years since the Superdome reopened after Hurricane Katrina. Former Governor Kathleen Blanco faced criticism for trying to get it reopened so quickly when thousands of people needed help. She says they got funds from the NFL and FEMA that could only go towards repairs for the building. She says in the end, she received many public apologies.

It took nine months to repair the stadium after the devastating storm.

The new book Murder on the Bayou by Ethan Brown explores the murders of 8 prostitutes in Jefferson Davis parish and alleges that Congressman Charles Boustany was involved with the women. Brown says there is no question that a staffer at Boustany’s office also worked at the Boudreaux Inn, where the women would perform their services.
